I wonder if somebody could help me understand Virgins flying club!?

We have 4600 miles at the moment and are planning a trip in 2013 - I know you can purchase miles and our flight would be 200,000 miles apparently!

What I want to know is if it is worth us purchasing more miles during the next 18 months - would this get the flight a lot cheaper for us - or should we just wait and use the miles plus money which is what we did this year to get a few quid off each?

Any help is really appreciated x

Thanks

If you purchase the reward seat you justpay the taxes do around 300 I would think

Of you can use miles and Flint which means 2000 miles and you still pay a fare, so around 400 plus the miles is what impaid in 2009 for a flight

You can also upgrade a seat using miles but you need to buy a specific fare code to do this.

You can also use the miles to exchange them for others things to, the club website has loads of info on it

They don't last forever either, if there is no activityon the account they expire after three years

When I looked at using miles only (buying some extra to make it to the right amount) it worked out more expensive than miles and money. Definately do the maths on how many miles you have to buy as it can be expensive. Miles and money always works for us. As said if you use your miles for an upgrade you basically need to have paid top price for the flight so not really worth it.

Hi Paula! Hope you had a fab trip last time!

Just wanted to add, we build up a lot of miles by using the Virgin Atlantic AMEX credit card, we buy everything with it, all of our shopping, petrol etc, we just pay it off in full when the bill comes in and the miles just keep building!

We literally use it EVERYWHERE that accepts it! I would definitely recommend it to get a flight using miles, even miles plus money!

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

Also bear in mind that having the miles doesn't mean there will be availablity for when you want to fly so you could potentially spend the money for miles but then not be able to spend them!

Virgin do also periodically have 'mile sales' promotions running where you can buy miles at a discounted rate so if you did decide to go that route might want to watch out for one of those.

Not sure how many of you are travelling and are Frequent Virgins but also bear in mind that there is a cap on how many miles you can buy per year.

As was said before the big issue is availability.

We've tried many times as we had over 100,000 miles between my partner and I and getting Miles only seats or companion seats for MCO is like finding hen's teeth.

When we finally used up our miles (for the upcoming trip in fact) we changed our destination to Miami, there is was easy to get miles seats, but the downside being the long drive from Miami to Orlando once you land.

Can't say no to those upper class seats though... :)
