I know this was discussed a while ago, but does anyone know if Virgin are still 'trialling' additional payment for exit row seats. I believe this may have been from Gatwick only?
Hi,
We had Virgin exit seats last November and the check-in guy told us they had stopped charging on the Orlando flight because they were ending up with "unsold" seats at the end of check-in and this was causing them problems because so many families travel to Orlando and because of the restrictions placed on who can sit in exit seats there were no seats left for them. All other Gatwick departures were charging, not sure if this is still the case.
It makes sense, as I would think a lot of people would not want to pay an extra £50 per seat, so it would cause problems if they could not sell them and the last people to check in were children or disabled who are not allowed to sit in exit seats.
I did send an e-mail to Virgin asking why they were charging, and their reply was ' a lot of people did not want to pay the Premium Economy cost for extra leg room, but 'surveys' showed that they would pay for exit seats'. ......... They obviously did not survey enough people.
