We've only done pin trading, so I'm looking for information on how Vinylmation trading may differ from pin trading, where we can do it, and if there are only certain times it's done. Can someone with experience fill me in on the details? Thanks!

Vinylmation trading now only offered in select stores

Fans of the Disney collectible Vinylmation figures will now be limited in where they can trade the figures at the parks. As of this week, Disney has reduced trading locations to a select few retail stores. Vinylmation are small figures shaped like Mickey Mouse, but decorated as other characters or themes. They are most often sold in a sealed box, so buyers are not aware of which character they are buying. Because of this, trading the figures has become quite popular. Below is a list of where Vinylmation trading will be offered at both Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Resort.

Walt Disney World:
- Emporium at Magic Kingdom
- MouseGear and Disney Traders at Epcot
- Villains in Vogue at Disney's Hollywood Studios
- Island Mercantile at Disney's Animal Kingdom
- D Street and Disney's Pin Traders at Downtown Disney

Disneyland Resort
- The Star Trader and Disneyana at Disneyland Park
- Off the Page at Disney California Adventure
- D Street at Downtown Disney

Thank you for the information! Kind of disappointing that there are so few places to trade, but I'm glad I found out ahead of time.

When we were there, on the weekend and some nights, there were a bunch of people outside D Street displaying and trading vinylmation.

Thanks for that information. Other collectors, I assume? That might be fun! My boys may be too shy to participate, but I hope that is going on while we're there so we can check it out!

Is this just done with CM's ?!?!?!

My DH told me about this, I have quite a few and am disappointed that there is not more trading, but will take a few in my upcoming trip to trade away.

We have met a few nice people trading outside D Street, had a few interesting conversations, and even made one or two straight trades. We have also been there at times though when one of those traders was loudly discussing (arguing) with a man the values of various vinylmations or explaining why he would only accept two vinylmations for certain ones or telling other people that their vinylmations were worthless or asking them to go into D Street and buy the special whatever and trade that to him, that kind of thing. I actually have no objection to going into D Street, buying a comparably priced vinylmation, and then doing a straight trade for a vinylmation my boys or even I really, really want and haven't been able to get by purchasing in a blind box or trading elsewhere. It's a great way to fill out a set, and everyone gets something they want. The trader gets a new item for whatever collection they're building, and we get a particular vinylmation that we may have been looking for. We haven't actually done this, but I can see how it can work out favorably. I'm just saying, don't expect to necessarily find people who are going to be willing to trade one of theirs for one of yours or your kids' already-in-hand vinylmations. A lot of these traders sit out there like they're running a business.

We did meet a really friendly young couple a few weeks ago in Disneyland. They saw that my boys were traders and offered to trade with them. The man was carrying a box of vinylmations divided up by keepers and traders. He offered to let my sons trade any one of their vinylmations for one of their traders because he said they liked trading with other collectors. My sons didn't end up trading, but we were all happy to meet others who were also enjoying vinylmations as a hobby.

Just a heads up for anyone going soon that on April 15th, Disneyana was not open (closed as well as Market House, I assume for the Starbucks transformation but not 100% sure). DBF and I didn't ask to see if a different store on Main St is trading in the meantime, but it might be worth asking.

Yes, Disneyana was supposed to close permanently on April 15. Market House and the space that was being used by Disneyana is being converted to the new Starbucks location. The Disneyana stuff is supposed to be consolidated in with the Main Street Gallery. I wonder if they will add vinylmation trading to that location or add it back at the Emporium or just let it go altogether. :(

If y'all hear if there is a new location, pass it along please, I will be there in just over a week, I will try to find out as well !!

Thanks.

Also, trading vinyls is more difficult than pins? I guess I'm interpreting that people place a "value" on certain pieces, and therefore would want more out of them? They aren't a straight trade? like pins typically are? And, for any that have done this, is it set up with other guests or can you go trade with a CM ?

TIA !

The places listed previously in the thread are places to trade vinylmations with CMs in the parks or at D Street. It's like with the pin trading except instead of a lanyard the CM wears or a pin board they keep at the counter, there's a vinylmation box kept at the counter. You go up to the counter or vinylmation trading display at one of the listed locations and ask to trade vinymations. We've had great interactions with CMs when doing this. A trade with a Disney CM is one for one as always like with pin trading. One of the big differences with vinylmation trading versus pin trading is that there is blind trading. The vinyls are often hidden in a numbered box and you choose which one you want revealed. Then you can choose to trade or not at most locations. D Street will make you trade. There is sometimes open trading available as well. At Star Trader's for example you can trade from the clear box where you see what's available or from the blind box.

The traders I was talking about in my post were the ones that "set up shop" in DtD outside of the D Street store. Again, I've met nice people there. I was just sharing my observations and experiences with some of the other people I have seen and met there. They have collections of their own and are looking for particular things. I am never offended when someone declines a trade to me or my children, especially when I know we don't have anything particularly interesting to trade. You just need to approach these people with an understanding of their angle.
