Vine: New parking light system in action at Disney Springs parking garage

That's pretty cool. When we were there a couple weeks ago and parked on the 3rd floor I saw all those round bulbs hanging from the ceiling. They weren't working yet then so I assumed they were all an overkill of security cameras lol

The outlets near me just built a parking garage with this system and we LOVE it!!!

NEWSFLASH: A new system will be implemented soon allowing people to reserve their parking space 60 days in advance if staying on site or 30 days in advance if staying off site. Toll gates will be activated by use of the Magic Band. People hoping to park on the first floor will want to reserve at exactly midnight at the 60 day mark. Those staying off site can hope for outdoor roof parking, at best. :smokin:

You kid, but.....................

They've got this system in a large shopping mall near me.
- It's nice to no longer waste time in rows that are completely full
- But now there's more competition for those open spots, since they're easier to spot (it's a race against others zooming in from other rows, around the corner, etc)

It seems silly, but I keep imagining a heated FP-level debate about whether these "ruined" parking :) There would be conflicting anecdotes about how much time searching takes now. Debates on strategy. We would form clear tribes: stalkers, waiters, or circlers. There might be a 1000-post thread titled "*Official Guide* how to park using the new lights **READ POST 342 BEFORE POSTING**"

...then I wake up, and it was all just a dream.

You should hang out on the community board. This comes up once or twice a year. And yes, it does get heated. pirate:

I must be missing something here. Why would anyone need a green/red light above a parking space to tell them if the space is taken?? There either is a car there or there isn't. I didn't realize this was an issue for people.

The sign letting you know number of available spaces in each row is cool.

Ever excitedly pull up to a seemingly empty spot to find it occupied by a tiny little car? This helps you avoid that.

More generally you can find open spots from further away because it's easier to see the lights.

Because with the way vehicles parked and bumpers align, it is often difficult to see do a spot is available until you get to it. With the green light, you can easily see which space is available. So aside from maintaining a safe driving speed in the garage, this should decrease lag time caused by stalking for spaces. Also, it helps to avoid the oops--that was an available space, let me back up and take it process.

I don't get it. The light up top seems so tiny. Can you really see them from a distance?

Oh yeah, they're visible enough in a sea of red dots. There will be signs every few sections that indicate if there are spots ahead so you know where to be looking.

A major shopping area near here has them - super nice. You can tell before turning into a row whether it has spots or is full. We saw a couple of "green" where someone had double parked and the spot was therefore not accessible but overall, the group in my car left thinking every parking lot everywhere should have them.

they have overhead signs telling you how many spots are open in each row plus the lights above. They are very noticeable in the daytime so I'd suspect even more so at night.

People cant even figure out how to drive in the garage, they need it all spoonfed to them.
