Hi All, I purchased 400 points at Grand Floridian to book a 1 Bedroom for 6 Nights during the Christmas Holidays. I knew Studios were out of the question due to popularity, but from I read from other threads 1 bedrooms should be available at 11 months. Now when I look for 11 months ahead all I see is every room type booked for early December....

Is this normal for VGF for December? Will I not have a shot to get a 1 Bedroom when the last week of the year opens up?

I'm trying to decide if I should just sell this DVC contract and get a different resort that would be available this time of year at 11 months out.

Thanks for any advice.

This coming December has been the busiest December ever, I think. Perhaps it‘s because all borrowed points were given back to 2021 UYs as reservations were cancelled and people who missed December 2020 just can’t wait to go back, but I would not sell because I didn’t get in this year.

Keep checking, something may open up for you, I am sorry it happened.

December reservations have been filling up at every resort. Luckily I wanted a one bedroom at Wilderness Lodge and got it, but even those I think are gone now.

This year may be worse than any because of the points situation, as referenced above.

Definitely use the waitlist.

Thanks, I'll try for this year and then one more year after. And if it still looks as hard as this year I'll look for a different home resort in Florida. Thanks again.

If you are trying for NYE, you still may get that I think. Fewer folks are interested in NYE. You may give a thought to walking a reservation if you can get in to walk.

Also, there seems to be an irregularity with VGF and booking dates this year. I hope members learn what THAT’s all about. I see the above poster has referenced that too!

Thanks for the link... Yeah i'l drying for Christmas Eve to NYE... Yes I could walk in future years but I thought I was buying a 1 bedroom to avoid that headache.. I guess I did not do my research well enough. This resort seems too crazy and too much of a hassle :( . Maybe I'll sell it and get more points when / if the Disneyland Hotel DVC opens. I'm a west coaster, but Really liked the 1 WDW trip each year. :(

If this is your first year as a dvc member and this will be your Welcome Home / first trip, call Member Services and let them know that. Sometimes they can work miracles for your Welcome Home trip and pull from their inventory. Or waitlist like others have said. This is a strange year (people have a lot of points due to covid) so don’t lose hope.

3 years ago, I tried for VGF 1 Br first week of Dec 3 - it too was gone on the first day - then I decided that I really preferred VWL/BRV as GF - with the GingerBread House setup - was just too loud and crowded and hectic to enjoy and the DVC lobby is very small...Of course, this year - it’s going to be tough booking much of anything outside to SS...but I would waitlist - you just never know what will open up between now and then...

Just remember that if you don’t get it, put in a waitlist and watch around 7 months.

There a lots of extra points for next December which may have people going in 1 bedrooms that normally will not.

Honestly, I am holding a few extra rooms right now for an early December trip because we have not yet solidi actual dates or the group. I booked for the most that would go for the most nights we would choose from,

Its not VGF but BLT and RIV studios. Had I not had as many extra points for those two resorts, I’d be holding more at SSR instead.

Don’t be discouraged since the next few year are going to be different for booking patterns.

VGF has been notorious many times in my opinion. I am also in same boat, thinking to get rid of VGF. If you have to WALK every single reservation right at 11 month window, is not worth the saving.

I already replied to your question on the other thread but it can't be stressed enough how the 1st week or two of December are the busiest of all DVC weeks. And it certainly generates a fear that all times are like that but they aren't. You will most likely be fine but plan on booking online right at 11 months, 8am eastern standard time.
