Villas at wilderness lodge...tell me everything you can...

I went to look at the lodge a couple of weeks ago with a view to perhaps staying there in the future. Got to see a couple of Villa's.

I was disappointed with the rooms. The lodge itself looked good and I thought the Fitness centre was first class, but the rooms were not to my taste. They looked old and small compared to other resorts. One bed rooms only sleep 4 compared to 5 in the more modern resorts. The rooms put me off staying at the resort.

I tried the Artist Point but was disappointed. Although the food tasted good, it wasn't anything special, I look more from a signature restaurant. I thought for what it was it was over priced. It wasn't in the same class as the Californian Grill.

I would go for AKV if you want to visit a lodge in WDW...i know it's not really a lodge , but it has some of that feel, especially in the rooms.

The best DVC lodge by IMO is VGC.

Each resort has it's pluses and minuses and their themes may appeal to some and not to others. VWL is more laid back and reminds us of staying in a remote wooded lodge. We just bought an additional 150 VWL points and we will be selling our BLT points in the future.

We believe that you should buy where you love to stay so we own at the following resorts and book based on which parks we intend to spend the most time in.

VWL is our MK resort, BWV is our Epcot and DHS resort and AKV our AK resort.

We love WLV as you can see from my siggie. It's definitely in our top 2 favorites for villas, but we just stayed there this past Thanksgiving for a week for our 10th anniversary, so we decided to stay at AKV/BC for Christmas this year. However, we really love everything it has to offer and how close it is to MK - very important with younger kids.

We actually love the decor...it's very cozy. But maybe it's because we seem to go there over T-day or Christmas, and it's already decorated for the Holidays.

Roaring Forks - our family loves the food here. I know not everyone does, but it has a pretty descent variety given the size of the place. I LOVE their hand-tossed salad and we all love their fresh sandwiches. The sandwiches are HUGE though, so it's really easy to share, especially since they give the small pasta salad on the side (also yummy with fresh veggies).

WCC - We've had generally good experiences/meals here. All times the food was good, but the service was a little slow the last time at dinner - it took 2 1/2 hours or more to get through dinner. Sigh. But, we've had better service at lunch and the food is filling.

Artist Point - my DH loved the Salmon, but I didn't care for my meal. I had a bite of my sister's meal (pork) and really liked hers though :)

Workout room - awesome - lots of great equipment, easy to use.

Pool - Can get crowded at times, but still generally good. They have Bingo and other trivia games and such by the pool most nights - lots of fun!

Movies by the Beach - we didn't do this, but they have it :)

Buses - be forewarned that sometimes the buses will leave from WLV and backtrack to Ft. Wilderness before going to wherever you're supposed to go. If you have to be somewhere by a certain time, maybe pad it. Same way on the way back. I never did understand their schedule on this, but maybe someone else can shed some light on it? We don't use the buses a lot since we have our car, but it just always seemed to take longer one way or another because of the Ft. Wilderness add-on.

Bell Services - IMHO, we've always found the folks that work here the best at Disney. They always seem to give 150% or more. And I've noticed that I recognize the staff every stay, so they must not have a high-turnover like other places?? Just speculating. But they are all wonderful in our experience.

that's all I can remember of the top of my head - HTH!! :)

Love it, Love it! It was our first DVC purchase. We have stayed there several times and again this Dec. Just can't wait. Second time in a two bedroom. We had a newly renovated room in May. Just beautiful!! It is nestled in the trees, always feels cool, even in Fla.

Thanks everyone for all of the info and greet things you've said about vwl!! I'm so excited to be staying there this trip! I'm also hoping that we'll be able to stay at our home resort later in the year! We are going in the beginning of march for mardi gras... So excited!
