Just got back from a trip in which I spent a good amount of time at my favorite resort the Contemporary. I am pretty confident that this Villas at the Contemporary is going to happen so lets start analyzing a few things:

1. DVC can breath life into areas. Both the Boardwalk and Downtown Disney are exciting fun points because of DVC.
2. The Contemprary is in serrious need of life (remember this is my favorite resort). It does not at all look futuristic, it looks gray and dark. Both the wings and main building look bad expecially from the outside. There is no outdoor place to enjoy with shops and restaurants. Even Bay lake has lost a lot with the closure of the island litte zoo/bird sactuary and River Country park. It has several things going for it: Chef Mickeys, Boat dock, beach and location to MK.

So what to do? I would level and rebuild most of it. It should look futuristic (like buzz lightyear) with bright colors and Disney Quest type of activities. Restaurants with themes like star wars. I imagine shops out on the island on Bay Lake. I imagine more hotels out on Bay Lake (Like the Wilderness Lodge). I see high speed hover crafts that can take you to MK is 60 seconds. I see DVC breathing life into the whole Bay lake area.

What do you see????

I'd hate to see any changes in the main building. I know some people hate it but I think it is a classic that only will improve with age. It is not a fashionable design anymore for a new building but that's what I like about it.

The wings do nothing for me so I'd agree entirely new buildings there wouldn't bother me a bit.

I think the new room decor, from what I've seen in pictures, is a big step in the right direction. Very modern and upscale looking. The decor it replaced was just embarrassing.

I do think having DVC can help that resort a lot. Everyone visits it... Chef Mickeys, California Grill, monorail through the lobby... but it doesn't get the love the other monorail resorts get. I think DVC owners can bring the love.

And a new pool, well, that definitely needs to happen.

If they do build CR DVC, and there was Buzz Lightyear and Star Wars themes there, we'd never get our two boys (6.5 and 2.5) to leave the place. If you added in the Incredibles, they'd be in sheer heaven!!! :cloud9: :cloud9:

What do I see? Myself staying at the Poly DVC!! :teeth:

Was just there for chef Mickey's this week. It is sooo out of date and drab. But the outside part of the renovated wing looks good - it is no longer gray but is now cream/tan, with white accents and the metal around the doors etc is painted darker brown. Looks much better, but still is what it is...

IMO, DVC after rudimentary rennovations to the Wing (take two rooms, make extra lg. all-studio suites, etc. & add/jazz up the pool - love that Star Wars theme idea!) could easily sell the resort, especially if it's smaller in scope than the mammoth SSR.

The Contemporary has great name recognition amoung the "general public"; an offering would sell out quickly. If I could afford the buy-in, I (and bet many others in my 40 to 50-something generation) would jump @ the chance...part of the "old-school" Disney mystique.

Well some of us love what it is ::yes::

What to do if they offer it up? Buy into the Contemporary, or hold out for MY favorite resort and hope they do a POLY DVC... or even an AKL DVC. Both are so TEMPTING.... Guess we will see where the finances are.

My understanding is the new DVC wing will be built where the North Wing and Tennis center are and both will be torn down for the new larger building. I have heard 6 floors with a direct connect to the main building. Have not heard anything about more pools etc., but I am sure the DVC section will have one.

I just think they will need to do more than just build a small extention like at the VWL. The need to have a long term development for all of the Bay Lake area. I would love to see shoping area or another small park built in the area.

That would be nice... I would LOVE to see another DTD type development but with Different theming... Like maybe build shops, restaurants, and then a theatre or two and put on permanent showcases of some of the broadway shows. I didn't like Aida that much, but Lion King was amazing and Beauty and the Beast is always a big Disney seller. You could do Character meet and greets in the morning and afternoon before the shows. With Tarzan coming out soon (and I believe a few more on the drawing board) you could really create something special more in the model of London's west end, vs. NY Broadway (which is captured by the Westend). I would love to see DTD re done completely and make the Marketplace more like an urban enviroment - NY or Chicago with Upscale Disney shops, etc. Then if you did this new development, you could do it in that old world European style and include the theatres and maybe a few other attractions mixed with Restaurants (a new high end one to rival V and A and Cali Grill; some mid level ones etc). I think you could do something really nice.

Another option would be a permanent holiday village kind of setup, or a small villians themed area. But I would love to something in that area that generates revenue, but you aren't required to pay to get in... just to do some of the activities... like DTD.
