I've never done a diy trip before but going to give it a go. 3 week trip ending with 9 days on disney. The rest of the time we want to stay offsite and do all the none disney stuff. Thinking definitely a villa due to space(as on site we ll all be in one room onsite). I haveno idea where to start?

Any recommendations?
Where's a good location?
Is it worth the extra to get a nicer one?
Can u get them equipped with baby stuff?

Also how's "check in work". Where do you get keys etc from. With young children don't want too much hassle on arrival.

Any tips welcome!

We're doing a split stay.... leaving in 45 days time! We're staying in a two bedroom villa on site at OKW for the first two weeks, doing just Disney, and then we're having a week in a really nice villa, just to relax after all of the crazy Disney fun!

We spent months looking for a villa we were happy with, at a price we were happy with and settled with this one... http://www.oristavilla.com/

We definitely were happy to spend a little bit more to get somewhere a little nicer, but at the end of the day, as long as the area is good and it's clean, you're going to be spending so little time there anyway.

Do not get one in the Kissimmee area, whilst they are very nice, it will take you 45mins to 1hr to get to the attractions of Orlando.

We often stay in the Formosa Garden area (Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms, Emerald Island) just off the 192 West, Kissimmee. These are some of the nearest communities to WDW and it takes just 10 minutes to get to the AK parking lot from WH.

As for price, if you are staying 2 weeks or more then many owners will offer discounts :goodvibes

I would be very surprised if it took more than 30 min

to travel from The Kissimmee Area ( The Arch entrance that joins OBT &192 )

to get to anywhere in Disney.

Im not look for disney proximity as will do that when onsite. More for everything else there is to do. So prob universal, legoland, shops etc.

We've been back to the same villa three times and love it. Next trip is just going to be on site as the kids are a little older and after our split stay last year we are in love with old key west 1 bed villas.
Maybe decide on an area you like first then go from there. Depends wre you need/want to be closer to.
We book direct with our villas owners and they have always been amazing, but also good to go through an agent if doing for the first time and a bit nervous. We stay at Highland reserve and find it a very nice resort. You'll find the villa we use if you google tiggerwoodvilla.
Good luck and enjoy the search-there's some lovely place out there :)

Thanks will have a look. Never stayed in a villa so how does it work with "check in" etc?

Not sure how all the villas work but ours has a little lock pad outside which the villa owner gives us the code to-we put the code In and open it up to get the key. The villa owner asks roughly what time we're getting in just to let the cleaning company know but this way it doesn't matter if you're running late or early. All check in details are done with the villa owner before you even leave home. Hope that helps :goodvibes

We have stayed twice in a villa and love the space! One on westridge and one in tuscan ridge. Both great locations and lovely villas. As a pp stated, we were given a code after paying balance, which would open a box at villa where the key is kept. Easy!

We have stayed both onsite and offsite and much prefer the latter. There is just no substitute for having all of the extra space and the ability to prepare some of your own meals.

Last time we stayed at a villa in the Acadia Estates community. It is gated and is very quiet, just 30 houses on a winding cul de sac street. It is only three miles from Animal Kingdom and has lots of shopping and restaurants around. Here is a link to the place we stayed: http://www.vrbo.com/571182

It is also very easy to get to the other attractions such as Universal Studios or Seaworld (15-20 minute drive down the highway).

Definitely recommend it. :goodvibes
