Video of POP Legendary years : Possible Plan To Finish ?

Wow!

Great footage. I had no idea they'd sit there that long unattended. Is there an official story on the legendary years buildings?

That was an awesome video. I felt like I was a spy while watching it, going to forbidden territory.

Thank you.

We love Pop, and we hope they finish it soon.

Yeah.. it's too bad really...

All that's done so far are the main hall and two three building wings. As you saw in the video.. most of those rooms are completely unfinished ...

I got a little shiver...a little bit of fear as he entered the empty room with the door standing wide open....great video!

that video is so cool!!!!! :cheer2:

especially inside the room itself, and walking behind the decades

creepy, too - like seeing the bombed-out ruins of an old, long-ago, deserted ghost town of a resort (not a resort that hasn't been built yet)

thanks so much for sharing! :goodvibes

Interesting. I especially liked the extra touch of the bug walking across the screen in the room. :rotfl:

It is a shame that it is just sitting there and not being completed. By the time they work out all of the legal issues and start building again, the condition of some of the completed construction will be somewhat deteriorated and will have to be torn down and restarted.

You noticed that too? Hahahaha.. At first I was like "Is that a giant bug on the wall?"

What legal issues are you referring to? I'm not aware of any legal issues that are a hold up with the construction.

The MiceAge column by Kevin Yee this week talks ALL about everything BUT the Legendary Years.. He covers River Country and all kinds of other 'abandoned' Disney.

Spooky.

Did anyone else notice that the putside floors seem uneven? I'm pretty sure it wasn't the railings that were uneven. It looked like the levels actually were warped towards the middle.

It looked like there was mold on the walls, too. The whole place is in poor shape and is depressing. I wish WDW would either commit to rebuilding it (starting from scratch, if necessary), or tear it all down. It's an eyesore.

If the second half of Pop Century is ever built, I think that it would be a fun resort.

Actually no that's the railings. The railings are just pieces of 2x2 wood nailed together and some of the nails have fallen out. Those are NOT the metal railings that exist on the 'finished' versions of the buildings.

The interior of the buildings is just concrete. No wallboard, no carpet etc. A good sandblasting and chemical treatment would prepare what stands today for further construction -- assuming the structural integrity of the buildings remains solid.

The Legendary years looks a lot like some of the buildings in the New Orleans area. Imagine legendary on a much larger scale and that is what a lot of New Orleans still looks like. Very sad.

I find the video so sad. It all seems like a giant waste right now. I hope Disney moves forward with the poject instead of leaving the eye sore there.

Knox...

The legal issues were in reference with the Contractor of the project... I'm having a hard time remembering the details now. I thought I had read that on these boards I believe... maybe a search would help....

Apparently this was mentioned by a Senior Management over at Pop:
The Legendary Years section of Pop is slated for a 2010 opening.
The Legendary Years section will have family suites just as All-Star Music...not sure if everything at the LY will be a suite. It may be mixed.
One good thing to note, the Legendary Years will have it's own set of busses, at least this is the plan for now...who knows for sure.
Construction will begin no later than Fall 2008.
One last thing, there was actual consideration to have Pop become a "value DVC" resort. But that was scrapped.

Whether thats true or not! Disney is undergoing several resort projects at the moment, including the renovation of All Star Sports slated at the same time of Fall of 08.

I did find an interesting map that shows the building locations and pools:

1940s Route 66 sign pool (currently shells, similar to 80s/90 section)
1930s (similar set up to the 70s section)
1920s Soda Pop bottle pool (similar to the 60s section)
1910s and 1900 Crossword puzzle pool (similar to 50s section)
