We just started a video game night at our church. I said, gee lets have a couple board games or whatever around, too. HA! My buddy that is in charge said no one will want to play anything but the video games. I am here to say after our third week, the split is usually like 70/30 with the higher number at the tables playing chess, cards, etc.

FURTHERMORE, and think about this in your own home or groups - the kids (teens and preteens) want to play what the adults are playing. Maybe we aren't so uncool after all. :lmao: I do think kids are starved for adult interaction.

I agree with you. We are big on board games in my house. Good for you.

DD#1 just turned 5 and plays nickjr games on the computer on her own. But given a choice she much rather play card games like old maid, memory, and go fish and board games like candy land and chutes and ladders. At her age I think she would just rather be doing something that includes interaction with myself or dad. Video games even when playing against someone just are more solitary. She typically plays on the computer when I can't play with her like if I'm in the shower or cooking.

Glad that you were able to get the cards and board games added to the program.

My dd's like video games ... alot but given a choice of playing a video game or a board game/card game with dh or I they will choose the game with dh or I hands down.

We like quick games like checkers and uno and leave the cards and game out most of the time. We also do scrabble and a few other games fairly often.

I think your suggestion of having choices was excellent -
