Video - 3 yo girl falls through fence on cliff *she is ok*

Ugh...this is one of the reasons I hate heights... :(

Wow, that's scary! but....
The mother is angry at the Park?????Are you kidding me??? She let the child lean against the two-slat, cliff rail for a cutesy picture, but it's the parks responsibility for not taking more precautions. People are amazing.

Agree!

I saw this too. I cannot imagine how absolutely horrifying that must have been for both the child and her parents.

that mom takes the cake, I'm sure she will sue for pain and trauma. You can't photoshop stupid.

I completely agree with you! She'd better never go to the Grand Canyon. Or any other park. That's the beauty of nature - you can't fence off the entire world just so you don't have to keep an eye on your kids.:headache:

I saw that on the local news last night- made my stomach DROP.

I don't know, I think it is a valid point that it is obviously not safe. I'm not saying she should ever sue or anything like that, but yeah I think it's definetly something to look into, and probably should be made safer.

I don't disagree that the fence is not idiot proof, but Mom was standing right there. She saw the flimsy fence. She saw the cliff. She watched her precious child lean against the flimsy fence next to the cliff. If she didn't have a problem with it, then why would she expect the park to have a problem with it? Did she think there was an invisible middle rail?

I think she's trying to make up for a brief moment of not thinking...I mean I would feel awful if I was that parent.

So I can the validity of both sides.

WOW:eek: ....that is one blessed child....someone was watching our for her for usre....

I can too. I'm sure that mother and father will forever kick themselves in the butt knowing what almost happened to their daughter and ultimately that it would have been their fault.

But, I do believe the park should have safety rails or something up. As a parent, we all know that we can be distracted for just a second and disaster can strike.

I so agree! What is wrong with this mother to let those little children near that flimsy fence for a picture???!!! I remember being at Yosemite. Our DSs were older and we were looking down at the valley floor that was almost a straight drop and parents were letting little kids run around. There was one little boy running in my direction towards a very small barrier. I know, none of my business but I instinctively grabbed him and turned him around. I said to his mom, who was at least 25 ft away, that's a really steep drop. "Oh, is it??" There was barely a fence. I think some people go on vacation and check their brains when they check their luggagge.

Exactly, there are so many places, hiking and otherwise that do not have fences. Maybe these parents should keep their kids on bungie cords.

Very scary - but I can't believe they're trying to blame the park! That fence at Ecola is probably one of the "safer" stops along the coast. It's sort of a guideline to remind you to stay on the path, not a barrier. Thousands of miles of coastline are hard to barricade. There are not fences everywhere someone could fall - not even an attempt at it.

Neither cliffs or ocean waves are a safe place for toddlers or small children. I've been to both (and to that particular spot on the video) both as a toddler myself and with toddlers of my own. I plan on taking my grandkids there. However, I already know that it will not be a relaxing vacation!

I actually think those little stick fences are safer than having rock walls or solid fences - people know they aren't a strong barrier and are generally more careful.

They just showed this on GMA - everytime I see it I hold my breath....

I too would think that the parks should have a better fence up. How very scary, and praise God that she is okay.

How did the mom keep video taping?? I would have probably broken my video camera throwing it out of the way to run and get my daughter.
