We just recently learned about this camp through my wifes employer Sprint.

The camp is Victory Junction in North Carolina and it is a camp for kids with chornic medical conditions or serious illnesses http://www.victoryjunction.org/aa_camp/camp01_mission.html

The main sponsor is Nascar and was started by the Petty family and now Sprint is a sponsor also. From the Sprint employee base of over 70,000 they chose 5 kids from emplyees to go to this camp and my DD was chosen! :cool1: She is going the week of the SuperHeros camp for kids with nuerological and genetic disorders. We are very excited for her as she has never been to camp and this feels like a safe place for her to go & grow! I wish evey kid could go to this camp.

I just wanted let others know about this camp and maybe some of you can experience it also.

We have been twice to the family camp weekend. It is fantastic and she will love it! Everyone there is wonderful and you don't have to worry about a thing. There are great activities from arts and crafts to bowling and fishing. And best of all, everything is handicap accessible. I urge everyone to check out the website and apply for camp or if possible make a donation.

AuntFlancy,

2 X's wow lucky you!!! I am glad to hear from someone who has been. This is such a big step for us. DW & oldest DD are going to go out with her and take her to camp and then stay out there, just to be close by. We would be a nervous wreck being so far away. (I know I will since I have to stay here and report to school before she gets back) :( She is really interested in the theater part they do and the race shop. She just found the Speed channel on cable and is checking it out.

Have a great day,
YO

Good for you guys!!! Have fun :cool1: Please let us know how she did.

A friend of mine volunteers at the camp multiple times during the year. She has asked me to join her, and I'm seriously considering it :thumbsup2 I'm a home health nurse for special-needs children. My current :hyper: "wild man" is an 8.5 yo DS boy. We are hoping that by next year he will have the communication skills that are required to qualify for Victory Junction.

Ohh that sounds wonderful! I hope she has a great time!! Post back and let us know how she likes it!

Here is a link to the camp we have here, its a HUGE effort by everyone in the community! This year my DH (who is almost done with his degree to become a middle school teacher) will be teaching. Its a win-win as he will get great training for both school and home, and get paid enough to pay our tuition for our son!

The MSNBC link wasn't working so you can get to it from here! My son is wearing a yellow polo :lovestruc

Thank you. I will post about it when she gets back. :thumbsup2

Lisa goodluck on the communication skills, and enjoy if you get to volunteer at the camp.

luci, thanks for the link, the camp looks like it is doing wonderful things for kids! :thumbsup2

We feel very lucky for our DD so get this opportunity.

Ya'll take care,

My son has never been away from home so we did the family weekend. I would totally trust the camp though. There is a great talent show at the theater and new since our first trip is the sports center and the bowling alley. Here is a link to all of our photos from the first trip. Let me know if you have any questions!
