My dh and I may have to fly to Victoria BC because my dfil is ill and we are not sure how long he has. We live near Toronto Ontario. I have been trying to find out how much it is going to cost for us to fly out there for a long weekend (my dh wants to go out there to see him for the last time, he will be buried here in Ontario) and where to stay. Does anyone know where I might look for cheap seats and if anyone from Victoria is on the board where we might stay that isn't going to cost us an arm and a leg. My dmil and dfil live close to the port I believe (we have never been there) as they said they can see the ships from their balcony. We thought of leaving on a Wed and returning on the Mon. I don't want to leave for long as my dm is dying of terminal cancer as well.

Hi tigercat

I just put in May 28 to June 2 (Wed to Mon) as per your post on www.flighnetwork.com and it cam up with $530 + taxes!

I don't know if you will get a "cheap" flight, as flying from Toronto always costs more than flying from Buffalo. You would probably want to fly from Toronto as you are flying within Canada.

If you put the dates you are considering in your next post, I don't mind searching for you :)

Do you have a $ amount in mind to spend for airfare?

Just checked www.westjet.com and they have a special from Toronto to Abbotsford for $149 and Abbotsford to Toronto for $199 (it's usually around $400+ each way!) Hope this helps? :confused3

Where is Abbortsford? I am waiting for my dh to talk to his dm tonight to see when would be a good time to go. At this time I have seen prices for the 2 of us that will cost $1645.00 total. I was hoping to get it a little cheaper than that but knowing that it cost more to fly out west than to Orlando. I will try the site as well and will let you know as soon as I know as to the dates.

My suggestion would be to fly directly into Victoria, if you fly into the mainland you still have to get to Vancouver Island, by ferry. Victoria airport is very small, you walk down steps to exit the plane after you arrive. The cost involved is quite high, and would add several more hours travelling time if you fly to BC mainland.

I always fly from Toronto to Victoria. I fly with my airmiles.

If Canadian flights are too expensive you could fly from NY to Seattle, Washington and take the ferry to Victoria. I believe the adult return for the Seattle/Victoria is around $80.00 US each.

Check out the Hamilton airport. We flew WestJet from Victoria to Hamilton. I think their fares are sometimes a bit lower since they don't have all the same high fees as at Pearson.

I tried Hamilton and Kitchener. The fares were the same. We are waiting now for his dm to check out the apartment that they have in the building for visitors to see when it is available. His df is out of the hospital and is stable for now so we will have to see. I really am afraid to leave my dm right now.

We have been watching flights for our dad to come out from Toronto. The lowest I have seen between Toronto and Comox or Victoria is about 600 with taxes rtn.

As for a place to stay in Victoria. There are alot of hotels downtown and all over Victoria. They range from 70.00 and up. Depending on what kind of motel you want.
