I've booked Victoria and Alberts for DH & I in late September whilst DD is with SIL. Will V&A be too fancy for us? I'm not worried about the atmosphere or what we'll wear, but mostly we're meat and three veg, and all things basic with meals. Are DH and I perhaps being too ambitious for our very basic palate?

Even folks with simple tastes can enjoy the cuisine at V&A. DH and I don't normally enjoy gourmet restaurants, but V&A is our exception. We've eaten there twice and will return again and again.

I don't allow myself to get thrown by the menu descriptions because I found the chefs really know how to combine the tastes of the various ingredients. I have never had a course that I didn't like. Just trust your tastes. There will always be something to choose from in each course.

Don't worry about V&A being too fancy. DW and I absolutely loved V&A and we are meat and potatoes people ourselves. The CM's are fantastic, not snooty and will walk you through the entire menu selection. Besides, if they say "truffled potato puree", it just means mashed taters with bits of mushrooms! :rotfl2:

We opted to get the wine pairing with our meal. We were unsure about a full glass of wine for each of us with each course but V&A will let you split the wine pairing. This gives you a short glass of the appropriate wine for your course. We knew we were going to "waddle" out after so much food but we did not want to crawl out after too much wine! :lmao:

I asked about splitting the wine pairing on our last visit as I had read about it on these boards and they wouldn't let us. It may just have been the server we got :confused3, I just wouldn't count on letting them allowing you to split.

We are very basic eaters and I would not 'dare' try V&A. Friends of ours love it but tell us we should not go there since they know how we are! :goodvibes

When I called to make my reservations, I asked about splitting the wine pairing at that time and they added a note then. Maybe it was the CM; maybe they no longer do this? It can't hurt to ask.
