Via Napoli - worth it if you are used to GREAT pizza?

HI everyone! Just wondering if we should keep our reservation for Via Napoli. DH says he doesn't want to eat there because we have great pizza where we live and there is no way it will compare. He thinks we will be disappointed. So I am wondering, for those that live in areas that have great pizza, did you still do Via Napoli and did you like it? TIA!!!!!

In a word, 'no'. Even the mediocre pizza out here in the 'burbs is better than Via Napoli.

If you want really great pizza, come to Boston, and head up to the North End.

Been there; done that. (My father lived in Dumont for many years, I worked in Montvale, and my step-sister lives in Hackensack.)

Gotta say: Some pizza in Brooklyn does come close to the North End of Boston.

Oh yes, I would concur with Brooklyn pizza!!! I just have easier access to North Jersey so that is where my allegiance is. But while in Brooklyn, I will typically have some pizza!

Depends on what you think of as "great pizza."

I will state that I think there is no better pizza at Walt Disney World which is sorely lacking in pizza to begin with.

I'm a picky pizza person-I've lived in NY, family all over NJ, and Boston, traveled to Naples, and grew up in CT on Pepe's. And I've yet to find a pizza better than Pepe's (even in Naples) imo. But I liked Via Napoli pizza and zeppole

I'm hearing they are under cooking the pizza because people are complaining of the "char" and it tastes burnt So if you go you may want to ask for well done with "char"

We ate there in June & enjoyed our food, including the pizza.

On a side note, we spent 10 days in WDW this trip, having TS meals every day, & Via Napoli "wins" for having the poorest service of any TS establishment we visited. Our waiter needed some serious RETRAINING. Poor guy just doesn't have a clue how to wait on a table.

We are glad to have tried it (we make it a rule to dine at least 1 new TS restaurant each trip, & this was it this time) but I'm not sure we will go back anytime soon. My family has too many other "must do" restaurants each trip, such as 'Ohana, Cape May Cafe, & The Yachtsman.

I think your looking at it all wrong. Its not about whats better than brooklyn pizza (because there is nothing better...). Its about the experience. You can go to Via Napoli and not have their pizza - They have other items on the menu. You can be there, and enjoy the atmosphere, and the drinks, and the cute Italian waiters. Your not getting them in Brooklyn!!!!

So I am from the North End of Boston, home of to die for pizza, and we love Via Napoli pizza but if you dont want to get that go for the pasta dishes...excellent!

We are from Chicago, which has a lot of great pizza choices. We specifically like very thin crust and crispy pizza (not the deep dish that some Chicago places are known for). We are also very picky and have two places here at home that we love. Our family really enjoyed Via Napoli pizza as well at the pasta dish we ordered. We will be going back on our return trip.

Do any of you have passports, by any chance? Scan and post that you've been to Italy, and maybe then you would know that the pizza made at Via Napoli is nearer to true pizza than anything you'll find stateside.

I realize you can't correct someone's opinion, but all of you are stating as a fact that the best pizza just happens to be where you live. Gee, what were the odds? Of all the places great pizza could be found, it just happens to be in your neighborhood? That's embarrassing.

The same people that run Via Napoli have a pizza place in the Metlife building on Park near grand central-I think its called Naples 45. I tried it a few months ago it was just as good as VN.

I agree! I grew up in NJ and LOVED our pizza. I traveled around Italy about 11 yrs ago and while I had good pizza there, I still like my NJ faves A LOT better. So yeah- I've had both and my personal preference is for what I can get in NJ. Now I live in TX and rely on 2 guys from Queens to get me pizza that's about as close to NJ as I'm going to find in these parts. There are a lot of place in the northeast that make really good pizza (i.e. not getting into which is better), but I get it- i.e. if you live in one of those places and are used to a really good pie- will Via Napoli be a let down?

That being said, I've spoken to a handful of my NJ friends and family who have tried Via Napoli and most of them have been very happy with the pizza. The only thing some people complained about were the zeppole...i.e. they prefer the plain ones that you get by the dozen in a bag of powdered sugar. Once again--all a matter of personal preferences.
