VGF, studio, early Dec, 7mos out??

My aunt won a trip through the sweepstakes Disney just had in Jan! And she & my uncle want to share their trip with my family. She wants to take my oldest kids as her 3rd and 4th guest. And she wants to stay at GF. Early Dec is really the only time that works schedule-wise but I am well aware that is a very popular time for DVC.

SO, my dh & I need to find a room for us and our two boys during that time. We don't have to be adjoining but I'd like to be at the same resort. I am wondering about renting DVC points for a studio there. We have rented twice but we usually go in September and we have never rented a studio. Just wondering if this is even a reasonable option?? Or is that just too popular a time, too popular a DVC, too popular a room category...

Would appreciate any advice I think we are going to have to make a decision in the next week or so based on what other winners have reported.

Early December is the most popular time for DVC members, so most book their stay at 11 months out. A GFV studio at seven months out for early December is probably not going to happen on points. A cash reservation, maybe, but not points.

Most studios are probably gone from most of the DVC resorts before seven months out for early December, except for a night or two here or there.

Thanks. That was what I suspected. I guess I can try to find a VGF owner. I just have someone I've rented from previously and prefer him. We are also less than 11 mos out right now and she hasn't been contacted about her dates so I can't do anything just yet.

I booked a VGF studio for early December, and you really had to book it right at 8am at the 11 month mark. I haven't checked availability recently, but I wouldn't count on getting one.

Just checked for you. And you better start acting fast. For studios for the weeks leading up to dec 22 there is no weekly availability. There are days here and there for booking. Do you have dates you want to go? Longest studio standard view was 3 consecutive days.

You are so kind to check. Thank you! My aunt has to be contacted by a Disney planner to get her dates set before I can book. I think I am definitely going to be out-of-luck on getting the GF. I suspect we'll be going around Dec 8 for 5 nights.

She said she'd stay at the CR also which means we could head to BLT. What are people's thoughts on availability there for early Dec at less than 11 mos??

We just went the first week of December in 2013. It was really busy everywhere!! My guess is it will be hard to get into a lot of the resorts around that time. I know it's one of the most popular times for DVC members, but it's also growing popular among the general public too.

I was able to book literally the last standard view studio at VGF for the week we're going in September. I had to grab it the moment the seven-month window opened. Weeknights will be easier than weekends, so if you're willing to do Monday-Friday, you might have a better chance than you think.

Here's my advice. A week before the window opens for the dates you want, start checking to see if the week before is available. Each day, adjust your check by a day. It'll help you see if the days you want are open or not, and keep you from getting your hopes up too much.

But more than anything, be prepared to look for the room as soon as 8AM Eastern hits. We're west coast, so I was up at 5AM to book our room. Good luck! And congrats to your Aunt!

BLT books up early especially for the 1st 2 weeks of December but there are more studios there than at VGF so you have a better chance but still doubt you will have availability at 7 months.

All studios book up early for the first full week of December. It would be hard getting something almost anywhere.

I think you'd find availability at SSR, OKW and VAKL. But I don't think you'll find it at any MK resort or Epcot resort - not dependably - by which I mean you might get a night here or there.

Its harder for renters - owners can stalk the website and waitlist if they really want something - they usually won't do that for a renter.

Not at 7 months- you might be able to find an owner now willing to work with you at one of those resorts but I doubt you will be able to get a week at either at 7 months. It will cost you more but your best bet is to find an owner with points at one of these resorts and have them book ASAP- most of that time is already booked up at this moment with just some days here or there. I suspect it will cost you a premium price per point to book either of them for Dec.- many VGF people have been offering there points for more than $15/point and BLT is getting up past $14/point at this point- if you wait till 7 months for an owner somewhere else you have maybe a 2% chance of getting either resort.

I appreciate your response. I can't do anything until my aunt gets her dates confirmed from Disney That is just killing me. The not knowing and therefore, me not being able to do anything. Ugh, wish Disney would hurry up

Yep, definitely getting the impression this is the deal. Again, I wish we had another option on time to go.

My aunt has said she'd also be willing to stay at CR so BLT is an option also. I would like to be at the same resort, if possible.

As a VGF owner it was difficult getting the days I wanted at 11 months for first week in December in a studio. I think it will be nearly impossible at the 7 month window.
