I may have the chance to spend one night at WDW before a 3 day cruise in July (we are just putting this together now...there is a 3 night Fantasy over my bday and this would give us the grand slam of the 4 ships without a 7 night). There is availability at VGF for a standard view. We would arrive early and probably not do parks. How IS the standard view? I have never been at VGF and have always wanted ot try it but don't want it to be a bummer because of the view. The other option is going in later and staying at the airport Hyatt so we would get on the ship earlier (not sure when DCL transfers leave from VGF).

Standard view is my favorite view at VGF. Standard views will either face the Grand Floridian Resort main building, with a view to the monorail to the left, or they will face the monorail, Shades of Green, the Spa, and Poly to your left. I would generally recommend that you get an upper floor.

The Lake View is quite nice, with a view of the lake and the Poly, but it is more points, and it gets a lot of morning sun.

We loved our standard view studio.

We were on the first floor (it is easier with the scooter.) And we faced the fountain. Beautiful view and sound.

We lucked out with this 6th floor standard view.
(I was on the balcony, watching a thunderstorm in the distance)

Generally, some face the Grand Floridian, some face the monorail, I’m not sure what else.

We had a 2BR standard view. From our balcony we could see the main building, the fountain in front of the DVC building, the beach and a clear view of the fireworks in MK.

I spent months of waitlists and stalking just so I could get 5 glorious nights in a standard studio there. :):):)

(That said, I believe it’s room 1221 that you should avoid if possible)

we stayed lake view but I wouldn't pass up staying standard view if I could

Our first VGF stay was in a standard view studio for 1 night before our WBPC cruise in 2014. We enjoyed it very much.

Our standard view on the 4th floor had a glorious sunset view of the monorail and some lake to the left. Would definitely stay there again!

I did go ahead and book, as I saw there weren't many single nights open at VGF...so we will be there one night before a 3 night cruise, no parks. I know when I booked our March stay I requested higher floor and there was an option "if room opens up that does not meet that requirement and it is ready when you arrive, would you take it?" or something similar. I don't know what I'd say at VGF...I'd like an upper floor, but since we are only there one night and will arrive by noon, I would probably take something that opens up earlier.

We have yet to stay in a lake view because we have loved our standard view rooms. From the balcony you have a decent view of the fireworks from most standard view rooms. Plus the kids love seeing the monorail going into the main building.
