VGC advice for October trip???

Hi Everyone, I'm in the planning process for a trip in October (3rd thru the 10th most likely). Family of 4, with two kids, will be 7 and 5. Thinking about a studio or 1br? My use year is June and I have my 2009 points banked (160). If I use my 2009 and 2010 points, I've got 320 total.
Is there a way to check availability besides calling? Most places have a calendar which shows what is open online and I have not been able to find that for the VGC? I don't want to call and commit to dates yet because I'm still trying to find flights and gets dates off from work so I may have to shift days forward or back depending.
Do they allow you to pick a room or just give you what is open when we arrive? If we can pick, any advice on what location to ask for? We'd love a nice view! Will the WOC be open by then?

Unfortunately there's really no online booking system yet for DVC.

Not necessarily always accurate since it depends on members to update it.
But it'll give you some ideas.

You can't book a certain room, but you can request anything you want. Nothing is guaranteed. You can request facing pool or theme park, close to elevator, lobby, etc. But no guarantee.

I've never been at GCV so I can't comment on location but I heard currently since DCA is being renovated theme park view could be loud from the working going on. So depending on how badly you want to look at the park you might want to take that into consideration.

I heard WOC should be open by late May. Then again they can change the dates anytime they want. Again, no guarantee.

I suggest you make a ressie as soon as you can. There are not many spaces at GCV. I am looking for dates on Mid sept and it's already spotty (some dates not available). So I suggest you make the ressie with the dates you think is best. At least you'll have something. Oct is getting really popular in DL/DCA because of Halloween season.

October is a great time to visit DLR!

We stayed in a one bedroom villa in September and we will be staying in a 2 bedroom villa this summer. There are 5 of us. I would suggest a one bedroom villa because the studio is a queen bed plus a pull-out sofa; it might be a little tight for everyone. The one bedroom has a pullout in the livingroom as well as a twin murphy bed. Plus, we enjoy having the full kitchen and the washer/dryer and -- for a one bedroom unit -- 2 bathrooms.

While we cannot pick our rooms you can request either a park view or pool view. WOC is suppose to open late spring/early summer. I know there has been discussion on other threads as to which park view rooms might have a good view of WOC.

The only way to really know availability is to call. I hope you will have excellent luck for your dates and that you will have a great time at VGC!

We did Oct last year, 1 bdrm villa had park view, right across the hall from elevator - it was great!

THis june we have studio and I am hoping for park view of the lake - but now we want 1 bdrm again and its not avail...oh well next trip.

Make sure you got to halloween party it was fun! Different the WDW but still fun!
