Veteran/Cancer patient discounts...?

I am a veteran, (of the first gulf war) and am in treatment for bone cancer. I am going to stay at PO Riverside in May with my sister and my wife, and was surprised that there were no discounts for someone like me unless I stayed at Shades of Green. Am I missing something?

First of all, I'm sorry you're dealing with cancer. It's a horrible disease.

However, a great many of us that go to Disney are suffering/dealing with various issues. If Disney gave a discount for cancer then they'd have to give a discount for anything and everything that impacts someone negatively.

Disney does offer discounts on rooms and discounts for Military personnel. If you go to the Disneyworld website and look up the special offers, there's one for tickets and another for discounted rooms. I'm not military so I've never really noticed the discount before now.

I don't believe their military discounts include all veterans - just those that retired out. There are a few public discounts you might be able to apply to your stay.

If the military discount isn't available to you, check orbitz. They run the same room only discounts as disney does, but then an extra 15% off code on top of it. You do have to pay in full when you book, and only book for two people. You then phone orbitz to add other people if necessary. You still get magical express. See other threads in discount board with details.

Also a certain travel agent has great deals in late August. Again, search this board and you'll find it. Can't say the agent name but it's a Labor Day discount.

I have an annual pass but the above two discounts are much cheaper!

Looks like they have the same requirements as Disney.

Sorry, no discounts for cancer. Military discounts are for active or retired military (and often also apply to all DoD employees or retirees). They don't apply to discharged veterans.

The military discounts also cover those vets that are 100% disabled with the proper military ID.

Are you medically retired? Have a military ID, being treat by VA? If you are medically retired you can use the military discount. This is my understanding. I have a friend who served then and got cancer from his service in Iraq. They medical retired him and he was able to use the military discount. He has an military ID. Can't hurt to call if you can use Shades of Green you should be able to use the discount. Just my views good luck
