Vet bill. Just a whine, no other redeeming value.

Took my dog yesterday to the vet to have a dental cleaning and he needed two teeth extracted.

$678.00 bucks:sad::sad:

Jeez, louise that's almost the cost of my upcoming 4 day stay at the Broadwalk villas.

****sighs**** I am so coming back as a dog in my next life.

ugh, so sorry!:sad2: It's no fun spending money like that.

Ugh. Sometimes when I go to the vet, I feel like just dumping the contents of my wallet on their desk and saying "Here, just take it all!" Always so expensive!

But at least your pup has nice clean teeth! :)

I feel your pain! That was us a couple of years ago - we on our first trip to DLR when the vet called (we boarded our dog with him) saying that he needed to get her teeth cleaned because they were in bad shape. When we picked her up it was over $600 and that was with a discount since we boarded her there!

She lost a few teeth and her breath was wonderful for a couple of months :sad2:

Don't you guy do pet insurance in the US????

We do. It hasn't been offered for very long though.

I priced my 2 dogs, and as they are both large, older dogs with many health problems it was almost $90 a month for insurance. Seems pre-existing conditions cause problems with dog insurance just like they do with human insurance.

Me too. Except that it wouldn't be enough:rotfl2:

I feel your pain. $500 for my poor kitty a few weeks ago and it didn't fix the issue:sad2:

I did have pet insurance once ( it was a free trial when I adopted a kitten). The kitten ended up being critically ill and dying 4 days after we got her. There was absolutely no way she didn't have feline panleukopenia (basically the same as parvo in puppies) but the insurance would not pay out without an organ sample of all ridiculous things. She had every symptom, but they wanted the definitive test, which would have had to been obtained postmortem. My vet told me at the time that pet insurance companies were notoriously bad for pay outs and proof and he didn't recommend paying for it (at least here). I don't know if it has improved at all in the meantime (about 6 years) but if you do go the pet insurance route, be very aware of what it covers and doesn't before you buy.

ETA) and the request for the sample they wanted postmortem came at least a week after she passed so of course at that point she had been cremated, though I wouldn't have done it anyway.

I feel your pain too! My oldest cat just had to spend a few days in an animal hospital for a multitude of issues, and the total ended up being $1,600 :scared1: I'm beyond grateful I was able to bring him home though. :hug:

Imagine spending nearly three hundred for a vet bill to have your cat's bad tooth removed only to have her sent back home loaded with fleas and several hours later dies on you. :sad:

Then of course I had to battle the fleas and try to keep my others cats from being eaten up, on top of mourning over my kitty. Idiots!!

Between my 2 dogs, I spent $1600 in one week. That included my littlest dog having 15 (yes, 15) teeth extracted to the tune of $600. The other dog had pancreatitus.

Next week we go to the doggie ophthalmologist for littlest dog. I can only imagine...

It's crazy!

I feel your pain........

We call our dog our million dollar mutt. After two cruciate surgeries we have at least $5000.00 sunk into him. Thursday he gets his shots, that should be at least $200 and he needs some dental work done too. They wouldn't do the dental work during his cruciate surgery because of the possible bacterial infection that could get into the blood stream, which makes sense I guess. I am cringing at how much the dental surgery will cost......he has some cyst in his mouth or tumor or something. Oye.

If I ever get another dog (which I probably won't) I am looking into pet insurance!

Maybe you should try a people dentist next time for doggy! They seem cheaper for a cleaning and extraction. :lmao:

Per insurance here doesn't really work out. We do it this way: find out how much pet insurance costs per month. Instead of paying that to them, we put it in a bank account earmarked for pet bills.

We use to have parakeets....They cost about $15 at the time...my mom would take them to the vet for us kiddos if something was wrong! $70 a pop for a bird. I guess its the price of love!

Just had to spend $1,500 in a 24 hour period for one of my Yorkies. I ended up having to put her down.

pigletto: Please tell us the name of the insurance that gave you the runaround? Another thing I have heard that pet insurance companies do is claim that anything that goes wrong is a genetic problem and therefore not covered.

I call my cat the money pit. I just shovel the money in. I brought her from Canada to Australia (which was about $4k when all was said and done) and she's since developed a heart murmur and asthma - totally unrelated to moving her, the vet assures me it's genetic and I couldn't have prevented it! He inhaler and heart medication is about $100/month. I had insurance for her in Canada, but they wouldn't have covered this anyway because it is a genetic condition.

Ah well. I love her and think she's worth it! (Most of the time... Lol)

Doggie eye dr is not too expensive if you tell them to write a scrip so you can get your meds at Costco. That saved us a ton

I have pet insurance- Healthy Paws. LOVE IT. Git it when puppy was 6 mths old. She has since had 2 $1300 surgeries and they covered no questions asked. Had check w/in a week. I have the $100/yr deductible plan, then they pay 90%. I pay about $35/mth. I haven't had it a year, so I don't know if it will go up. But, because I got it when she was a puppy, there are no pre-existing conditions.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::lmao: That is SO funny!!

I feel your pain as well... 700 last week and the problem isn't fixed but my budget is - so we'll just see how it goes. He's a little better so hopefully it continues because he's maxed his medical for the year. At 15 years old and a two year diabetic he's been a trooper.
