Very Said News About Missing Girl

I just read this on the Orlando Sentinal website. I feel so bad for her parents.

Late Wednesday, deputies blocked streets around a house where Joseph P. Smith had been arrested a day earlier. Authorities said the girl's body was not in the house but would not comment on what they did find.

About 10:30 p.m., officials called Steven Kansler, Carlie's stepfather, out of the crowd and took him into the house. When he emerged, he spoke briefly to Carlie's friends -- many of whom began weeping, and some collapsed to the ground. A close friend of the family said investigators told him they think Carlie is dead.

I think I would lose my mind if something like this happened to my daughter. I can't even imagine what those people are going through.

His neighbors were on the Today show today and the interview was mostly about how they didn't recognize him on the video but now that they know he is a suspect they see the similarities to him. They fell apart at the end of the interview. There was no word as of this morning that there had been anything further found in his house, though.

This is everyone's biggest nightmare.

I can't even begin to imagine what her parents are going through. My prayers are with them. No parent should ever have to experience anything like that.

I heard this on Good Morning America this morning. It breaks my heart. Now I might sound horrible here, but I think I would have to hurt his man repeatedly until he broke down and told me what he had done and where my daughter was!

It is very sad and I feel very bad for that girl.

Now, I know I am going to get flamed for this, but the first thing I thought of when I saw the video and heard that she was only eleven. Was "What was she doing walking home, taking a shortcut through an obvious commercial area with busy streets, etc." My son is almost 11 and if his friend is not in our immediate residential neighborhood, than we drive him back and forth. I just 11 is very young to be out walking city streets to get home.

That opinion in no way means that I feel any less bad for anyone involved. I realize that there are a lot of children who go home alone everyday and are a lot more independent than my son.

Do you know what really bothers me? The accused suspect has been arrested several times before for other things. At what point does the justice system feel that this man will turn his life around?

In the new stories it mentioned that the parents weren't aware she was walking home. Not sure if the friends parents did either, her father went to look for her and did drive by the area only minutes after that video was taken. That might have been part of why the Amber alert wasn't issued that night when they first reported her missing.

I also have a DD about that age, really scary stuff. They walk to their friends house behind us but even then rarely alone.
