Hi all,

Sorry I've not been on here much lately, things have been not so good here. Finlay is growing well but has been colicky since about 2 weeks old (he;s 5 weeks tomorrow.) We've now got him on some colic meds that we put in his milk but it has the side effect of lovely runny stools - joy. He's also got issues with wind as gets lots of discomfort from that so it's been very difficult getting him to settle well.

I have spent most of my weekend in hospital with my gallstones. I had an attack on Fri evening and had to stay overnight being given morphine and other stuff, discharged sat afternoon. Tonight I had another flare up and was taken back in and given more morphine but sent home before it wore off which I wasn't happy about as it may well have just been masking the pain - I couldn't even walk by myself I was still so high! They've given me loads of strong painkillers but I started feeling discomfort again once the morphine wore off at home - hopefully it won't come back overnight. Seems like they forgot to refer me to the surgical team a month ago too so I'm now apparently being fast tracked to get it all sorted. I really hope that's true!

Ok it's late and I feel like Bambi from all these drugs, just wanted to let you lovely people know I'm still alive and loving being a mum!

Xxx

So Sorry to hear you and the baby are having troubles- I will keep you in my prayers- thanks for letting us know how things are going.

Oh no... for you and Fin! You both have to get better soon! I'm glad they're fast tracking you, but I can't believe they "forgot." Fin must have been so cute that he distracted them.

My elder DS was very colicky too - I gave him infacol but I don't think it really worked, just gave me the illusion of being in control! He also brought back huge quantities of milk through gulping too fast. You could ask the health visitor if she can get you some milk samples so you can try a different formula (if you're not feeding him yourself, which with all those drugs I assume you're not) - elder DS was on SMA heavy formula, but younger DS (once I finished feeding) went on Cow & Gate. He was never colicky though - luckily!

Sorry to hear about your pains - hopefully they can sort everything out for you soon!

He's on mixed breast and bpttle at the moment, I find it insane that I can't take Nurofen as it's dangerous for him, yet morphine is perfectly ok!! If I take the diclofenic or co-codamol I have to wait 4-6 hours before giving him any more mlk so the stuff I expressed last night got chucked out.

We tried Infacol and it did nothing noticeable so we're now on Colief and it seems to be working. He's on SMA gold and doesn't bring very much up, just think I need to try and get his wind up better.

I had a lot of trouble with that - especially when they're so tiny! My HV showed me a good position, with baby lying tummy-down along your forearm (so your hand supports his head) It takes a bit of practice, but she walked around like that patting his back and he got very comfortable:goodvibes
