Our friend will be on the Magic next week. He can't find his passport. He does however have his original birth certificate. It is 63 years old, it is thin were the paper was folded and it does not have a raised seal. It is however the original. Will he have any problems?

He might. Even though it's the original does not make it certified (i.e. raised seal or like on mine, the seal isn't raised but is in a different color ink).

Depending on where he is versus where he was born, he might be able to get a certified copy of his b.c. in a matter of days....

ditto...my original hospital birth certificate got my dad out of vietnam, got me all through school, working papers, drivers lic., until in college i went to get a passport..and found out it wan't official...no raised seal. :sad2:

my dad just went to get a new one he also had a 65 year old one he went to the city and got it in the same day just 5 dollars give it a try tomarrow sandra

Be careful with vitalcheck. I used them and it was $80 for a certified transcript of birth (not a birth certificate) and all I had to do was contact the town where my son was born ang get an actual birth certificate for $10 plus actual shipping. I went down and picked it up and it took all of 5 minutes. I returned the certified transcript and got all but my shipping back. Complete ripoff IMO. So contact the town clerk office where you were born they are very helpful.

sorry i just called my dad the cost was 15 not 5 he went to the bord of health in manhatten i belive the address is 125 worth st off broadway good luck

If you no longer live where you were born, it is still easy to obtain a certified copy, usually. All states have websites and most have information on how to obtain. I live in Oregon, needed mine from Texas. I went on the internet, used a credit card to pay the few dollar fee and it was in my hands in less than a week.

For what it's worth I used Vitalcheck twice, the cost was less than $30.00 each time and it was a Certified Birth Certficate each time. It was far more convenient, much faster and worth the extra couple of dollars versus spending the better part of a whole day dealing with the courthouse each time. Not sure what 3Disney ran into, but that was not my experience.

Thanks for all the replies. My friend went into Manhattan this morning. He was first on line and in 10 min he was out the door with a new birth certificate.

see how simple life can be when you have all the options right before you good choice now you know he can sail with peice of mind glad i was able to help sandra

Yeah but it depends on the state you live in. In Ny the fee is $80 and they are not able to get an actual birth certificate. The certified trans of birth is legally the same thing but getting the birth certificate from the town clerks office is much cheaper. It also has all the original info on it like the doctor's name that delivered the baby etc. whuich the certif trans of birth does not.
