Alright, two totally unrelated questions here.

The first is with my DF's family. My family is totally behind the wedding, and he asked my dad for my hand, but his family isn't exactly sunshine and rainbows. He first told them we were engaged and they said he wasn't allowed to be (...?) and that getting married young "isn't how things are done in this country". He wants to break the news to them and says he doesn't care if they go, but I know he wants them there, and I was wondering if anyone had advice on just how to break culture shock and get two totally different cultures in on one wedding. My side is Roman Catholic Cubans and his side is a mix of Irish Protestants and Russian Jews, so the religions a nd ethnicities aren't helping very much.

The second is about reserving dates. I'll be gone most of this summer for study abroad and, when we get back to the states, won't have much time to plan the wedding b/c it's out last year of school. We're moving out of state 6 months before the wedding, as well. Is there any way to send in a request for a date early (our's would be in January 2009) so that's taken care of and it's a huge stress out of the way? I was hearing things about 18 month marks and wondered if that was possible. How exactly does that work for custom weddings at WDW?

I have to give you big hugs. DF's family was the same. They have kinda came around. That or lose DF and they didn't want that. You just have to hang in there.

I would call Disney and explain the situation. See what you should do. There are so many different stories of when people reserve their dates.

Don't worry about making others happy.

It's your big day, and you should do what makes you happy.

I had a similar situation with DHs family....they are catholic & im not real religious
DHs parents thought at 1st he should stay within his race too,(he's hispanic & Im a plain ole white girl ) so I had that hurdle as well!
We decided that we were gonna do a wedding for us & not the family.
We told everyone that it was gonna be a DFTW & if they wanted to go, great.
We had no problems or family brawls....we got married & life went on...now its 10yrs later with a DD & we coudnt be happier.
Just like the previous poster said....do it for you & your DF.
Dont have a wedding because the family pressured you into the way they want it....they are gonna both want their religions involved....go with what you & DF want

As for dates....call!!! they can be extremely helpfull...thats the best way to get your answer & take names & log all calls...for your piece of mind...notes come in handy, but document them well
