Verse One: We're Ready to Go
We sat there in March of two thousand and two
And oh how we wished we had something to do.
The snow had not melted, the rains hadnt begun
Lets face it, in our state, winter was not really done.
And I knew that our summer would be oh so short,
Id better plan our escape to some nice, warm resort.
So I googled on Florida and found some great sites.
We could go watch the shuttle, go sailing, fly kites.
Lets take the grandkids, it would be so much fun.
We could show them some gaters laying out in the sun.
We have never done Disney, now theres a new thought.
To go *there*, Id need to return the car I just bought.
But I sent for the video and it came in two weeks.
A seductive production; it put heat in my cheeks.
I was hooked. Gotta go, I said with a shout.
How much can we spend? Well, Ill figure it out.
We had them over for dinner; they were all at the house.
Can we take the kids on a trip? To go see the mouse?
Our son said Okay, I guess that isnt so far.
I know Ill stay within budget, and I wont sell the car.
So back onto Google to research some more.
Web sites, discussion boards, Holy cow, what a score!
When it comes to Disney, were newbies I guess,
And I learned very quickly a good plan relieves stress.
Minnesota is cold right after Thanksgiving.
Take the kids out of school? We might need some forgiving.
Its supposed to be slow then; the lines could be short.
It might be forty degrees warmer; no snow or the sort.
Animal Kingdom Lodge sounds great; lets start our trip there.
Well see zebras, giraffes, well try not to stare.
The rest of the week, well go Polynesian,
And hope for those days that summers the season.
Lets do Cirque du Soleil and see Hoopdedoo,
Candlelight Procession, Osbournes lights, too.
Parades, fireworks, a character meal is a must.
Maybe at Cindys we will score pixie dust!
What about lunch at the castle, an afternoon tea?
Pirate cruise for the kids? We will just have to see.
Lets go to the Space Center, see the place on a bus.
A massage at the spa, a time just for us.
Now it was time to start training, so I took them to shop.
To the Mall of America where you shop till you drop.
In the midst of the mall, roller coasters well ride.
(For those who dont know, an amusement park is inside.)
We built our endurance; we shopped and we rode.
And I told them the stories of Pooh, Owl and Toad.
We rented the movies we never had seen.
We sang songs and read books, the Dis magazine.
Now can you say obsession? Ive planned and Ive planned.
I know where to go, where to eat, where to stand.
Its the best vacation we will have for ten years.
They say that Ive sprouted two big round black ears.
We leave in two days and youll just have to wait,
To find out how it went; where there lines at the gate?
Did our planning and training pay off in the end?
Stay tuned! Wish us luck! Well be back next weekend.
