We booked a few days in Vero in August. It will be our first time staying there. Is it super crowded in August...trouble getting chairs by the pool? We plan to drive...should we take our own beach chairs, sand toys etc? I know Florida in August = hot and humid in Disney...can we hope for any breezy relief by the beach in Vero?? Thanks!

We went to VB once for 3 nights in August after a week at BCV. We had an OVIR and it was great. I don't remember there being any more of a problem getting chairs by the pool than at the WDW resorts. At that time there was a DIS organized "chair swap" going on that we got in on to have the use of beach sand chairs but the waves were rough (a TS had just passed off the coast the day before that washed in a lot of seaweed) so we ended up spending most of our time at the pool. We flew down and used DME to WDW then rented a car for 3 days to drive to VB. We brought our Owners Locker with us and then they met us at the airport car rental return to pick it back up. It was August so it was reallllly hot and the water in the pool was not refreshing - like hot tub warm. They were putting ice in to try to cool it off. Seems like I remember there was a towel shortage by the pool because they said they send the towels back & forth to WDW to be laundered. I hate the dinky pool towels used at most resorts but when you fly you don't pack any more than you have to so you're stuck with what's available.

We did Vero in Aug of 2012. The beach wasn't too crowded but the pool always was and folks go out early in the morning to 'reserve' their chairs and tables with towels and bags. The resort is really the only thing nearby on the island. It is very isolated and remote. You have to drive off the island about 15 minutes to get to stuff (like grocery, dining). There is a lot to do at the resort for little kids. It has a CS, 2 restaurants and a pub-like venue (Green Cabin room). They take the TIW card if you have it. It storms every night, around dinner time, very briefly but then the walkways are covered in tiny snails and they keep the walkways dark because of the turtles. The entire island is very green and views of the ocean are limited...the inn rooms are best for this (and the Green cabin room patio, WOW!). We had top floor 2BR villa and could just barely peek over the greenery to see the ocean, couldn't really see the beach itself. You can only get to the beach via a deck/pier thing and it is gated and near the pool. The gate was locked at night when we were there. The pool is gated too and you use key cards to get in gates...a pain with hands full of beach/pool stuff. The sun is really hot and we all got pretty burned. Bring lots of strong sunblock and aloe. It's a nice place for a few days. We did 4 nights and that was enough for my 3 teens (they got bored by the end). Then we shot over to Orlando for 2 days at Universal. It was a fun trip all in all.

Oh and bring chairs, umbrella, toys as they are expensive to rent at the resort and there are none of those cheap beach stores (like Wings) to get stuff at.

Hmm...sounds like maybe August isn't such a great time for Vero with the heat, warm pool water, and crowded pool?

I don't think it's any worse than any of the WDW resorts.

When we went in August we didn't have a problem with crowds or heat. But the mosquitoes were savage - my wife got eaten alive even with frequent use of repellent. And we're from Florida, so we're used to mosquitoes (we thought).

We vacationed there with 2 kids (8 and 3) last August. It was great. There were lots of kids there and my girls made friends and had lots of fun. The recreation staff is fantastic for the kids (crafts, pool games, kids night, campfires - my older daughter went on a trip to a nature center, and she did the turtle program, stargazing). The activities went from morning until evening. As for the beach, definately bring your own. Some days the beach was fine for the kids other days it was too rough. Even on the rough days, I would walk on the beach in the morning. You will need lots of good bug spray. It was hot, but not in a way that was an issue - lots of time in the pool anyway. I loved having an inn room. Location was excellent. The lobby even has areas with ipads loaded with kids stuff and another section with video games. Unfortunately we could not get an ocean view as we booked late. There is not really much to do around the area but we enjoyed the resort.

Whenever we stay at Vero Beach, we like to go to Sebastian riverfront area.
There are nice restaurants and boat rentals there.

We went last Aug and never used the pool strictly stayed at the beach. The pool was always crowded and lots of small children. We stopped at CVS to buy a couple of chairs or you can rent them but found it to be more economical to buy them and we left them there. We found the Walmart nearby afterwards so recommend stopping there instead first. It is HOT!

We also went a few years ago end of August for three nights. Would have loved an additional night.

Pool can get crowded - get there early. We did buy some cheap beach chairs at CVS (we flew that year and rented a car) and left them with another family checking in the morning we checked out.

Have fun!

We went to Vero on a split stay after WDW!
Loved the WIND DOWN and relaxing pace after the hustle bustle of the parks at Vero.:thumbsup2
Didn't find the pool or beach to be overcrowded at all!
Had a fabulous time there, but the restaurant selection "off site" was not that abundant in my opinion. Seemed like we had to drive a lot. That was the only downside that we saw. We would definitely go back though. ENJOY!:)

I went to Vero this past August for the first time. The pool was very crowded. My DH went out every morning at 8 am to drink his coffee and get a table. The pool itself was uncomfortably full of people. We tried renting chairs at the beach and they were sold out. One family rented 23 chairs!

We usually go to DW in the summer and know what the pools/chair situation is like - this was much worse.

The beach and the water were amazing, but we will not be back.
