Any new info on the conditions at Vero Beach after the hurricanes?

Vero Beach is open and in good shape!

I will try to post a trip report on the community board this afternoon with more details.

Here is the bottom line:

Looked like all rooms open except the most southern building of townhomes and the 4 beach cottages south of the main building.

Shutters was open but not the porch area.

Much work continuing on the grounds, particularly repairing sidewalks and landscaping.

The beach is great!

Access right now is from the pool sidewalk across the area where the bonfire used to be and then onto a short stairway called a "dune crossover". Disney also brought in tons of sand and banked it upwards from the beach towards the resort.

I will post a full report on the community board in a few hours.

Hi there,

As far as I know, they said the 4th floor of the inn was still closed for finishing touches.

Has it opened?

The beach house nearest the pool was still being worked on last Tuesday. I didn't get a chance to look at any of the others.

nickglover is correct, the porch of Shutters is still closed.

Sonya's is open and the food was wonderful.

Our room had new carpet, new paint and new mattresses.

The floor in the lobby area has been totally refurbished.

There wasn't any furniture in the outer lobby areas last week as they were still hanging pictures, polishing the floor, etc.

There is a lot of new landscaping.

The community hall looks like it got a fresh coat of paint. Parts of the mini golf course have been recarpeted.

The playground is gone but there is still a sand area for children to play in by the pool.

They were still working on the slide last week-welding up near the top. They hoped to have it open the next day.

My son went snorkeling and the CM said they had a lot of sand and salt water in the pool but it looks wonderful.

nickglover,

Are you at Vero? Have a great time if you are!

I am home in Tampa now. We were there Monday through Thrusday. You are probably right about the top floor of the inn. The slide opened Wednesday after some welding on Tuesday.

Thank you so much for the prompt replies, I really appreciate the info as we are about to make some ressies there in the near future and I just wanted to know what to expect. It all sounds just fine with me! Can hardly wait!!

Anyone have any information on the general Vero area near the DVC at Vero?

Anyone know how Capt. Hiram's Marina is? I am planning a vacation that will include a fishing trip - hopefully from Capt Hiram's marina in Sebastian.

BobH,

As far as I know, only the SandBar part of Capt. Hiram's is open.

You can go to their website at www.hirams.com

It states that they are still working on the restaurant and marina. We were there after Frances and the marina was pretty much gone. We ate our dinner about 5 feet from a damaged boat that almost ended up in the restaurant.

They had much worse damage with Jeannne.

Thanks Floridafam. If it is that bad I am wondering if a lot of the charter fishing boats are out of business for good.

I looked at the slide show on CApt Hirams website. I don't know the date of the slides but the marina looks wiped out! I wonder how many boats were destroyed vs how many were moved and not damaged.
