Vero Beach Turtle Nesting

Normally I wouldn't consider a trip to Florida in June/July (too hot) but I think the Turtle Nesting sounds interesting.

1) How interesting is the turtle nesting? Will my 6 and 9 year old kids enjoy it too?

2) How hot is it?

3) I can't imagine going all the way to Florida and not spending a few days at WDW. How crowded and hot will that be?

We went to Vero the first week of August last year and are returning the same week this year. It was hot, but the ocean is right there and the breezes make it seem a little cooler than it is inland. Between the pool and the ocean, we spent the whole time in the water and had a blast. In order to see the turtles up close, you have to sign up and people are chosen in a lottery type system. Our group wasn't that interested, so we didn't even try, so I can't comment on that. You are brought onto the beach at night with special flashlights that won't disturb the turtles.

We followed up our Vero trip with 2 days at WDW. It was hot, but we lucked out with cloudy days which seemed to help a little. Crowds were manageable - especially with Fastpass.

It will be hot and humid. However, at Vero, you are right on the ocean and it will be much more comfortable than what you'll probably hit at WDW. The turtle nesting tours take place after dark so the heat won't be as intense...it could even be cool if the winds are blowing. WDW is landlocked and it will be warmer and more humid. You'll also have pretty good crowds since it is summer vacation time.

I haven't actually done this trip so I can't say what interest it would hold for your children. I think it would be a lot of fun.

Go in June rather than July, it's not as hot. But then that depends on what you consider hot. We're from Texas and May & June are the perfect months for us and Florida is much the same, July/Aug/Sep is when it really gets scorching.
