Vero Beach Report
I flew into West Palm Beach on Sunday 5/15, rented a car and drove to Vero. The ride was about 1 ½ to 2 hours (we stopped for a bite to eat so its a hard to be more specific). It was an easy ride, directions were good and everything was clearly marked. Arrival at Vero was very friendly and uneventful. I had booked 2 inn rooms, garden view, after my last trip down in April. I was not able to get an ocean view room, but was quite pleased to get the rooms that I did. This trip it was my wife and myself and my sons age 23 and 19. We planned the trip to include 3 days at Vero and then over to Boardwalk. Ill break this into sections so you can choose what you want to read.
Beach Access: The new ramp to the beach should now be open. It was scheduled to open on Friday, May 20. When we were there they were finishing up the roof, landscaping and last minute touches. This will make the beach much more accessible. It was a long walk from the pool to the temporary access, now the access will be opposite the pool entrance. The beach is great at Vero, the water was warmer than the pool and the waves were fun. It is very salty there and small people may be thrown around a bit by the waves. I walked the beach every morning and you can go as far as you want both ways. No turtles at Vero yet, but they were spotted at Wellington, north of Vero during our stay.
Crowds: Very light crowds. The staff was talking about how few people were there for this week. They were being warned that the crowds would get much larger in a few weeks. There were many new staff, but they were all friendly and helpful. The pool was almost empty, there were plenty of chairs available at all times.
Pool: On my last trip in April I complained on the boards that people were reserving chairs with towels and not using them. On this trip that was not the case. The staff was very attentive to the people around the pool and knew what chairs were occupied and which were not. They went around and took towels off of the chairs that were not occupied every couple of hours. I guess that Disney does listen to what is being said on the boards. The pool staff was excellent. They were very helpful to families with children and spent much time rounding up kids for activities. The slide is a lot of fun and you get a great view of the area from the top, worth the trip even if you plan to walk back down and not slide.
One additional note; my wife wanted me to post that the mens and ladies room at the pool is labeled "Buoys and Gulls". Unfortunately, under the Buoys is the ladies room and under the Gulls is the mens room, I don't feel that this is an issue, but she does (along with the woman that walked into the men's room).
Part 2 coming.
