DH said something about taking a relaxing trip to the beach this summer so I thought "Why not the Disney resort at Vero Beach?" My grandparents used to have a house down there and I think it's really beautiful. Is the resort like the other DVC properties? Would I be better off to try and rent points or could I make a reservation through Disney? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

You could check on the possibility of renting points from a DVC member, but you may want to check on availability of discounted rooms. Just last week, I received an AP discount mailing. There are also discounted rooms available at a Disney Visa rate from time to time.

VB is Glorious!!! We were there over MLK weekend in January and Loved it. Nice soft sand, great little second floor bar (Green Room), terrific pool with nice slide, fun activities, beautiful architecture, breathtaking ocean views; I think it was Forbes that ranked it in the top five family friendly resorts worldwide.

As for whether to rent points to do it, it might be cost-effective, but the weekend nights tend to be a better deal paying rack rate (even for DVC members like me). If you're doing a long weekend, just rent at rack rate (or whatever deal they are offering - often good ones thru Disney Visa). If you are a larger party and need to go for a 2BR, maybe renting points would be a good deal, especially if most nights are weeknights. But remember, if you are there on Points, you don't get daily housekeeping (or is that Mousekeeping); if you are paying directly, you will get housekeeping. Tho the jacuzzi tubs in the 1BR, 2BR and beach cottages are nice, and the seclusion of the non-Inn studios can be nice, we have preferred to get the ocean view Inn rooms, as these are the only guaranteed ocean view units (and the view is well worth it - DW gasped when she first looked out of our room!).

Good luck. Go enjoy one of our favorite Disney resorts, even without the parks.

And what should I find under "D" on my cellphone, but the phone # for Disney's Vero Beach Resort :p
Here it is:
(772) 234-2000

I think I programmed it in so we could make a PS for the character breakfast with Goofy on the Saturday morning (also on Wednesday in the summer, according to my DVC newsletter).

edited to add: I guess the only drawback was that it was hard to use our cellphone out there. But then again, we're on vacation, maybe we can leave the cellphone off. ;)

Personally, I wouldn't rent pts for Vero and we own at Vero.

We find it costs less to try and pay cash and use a discount for the nights you are interested in.

They offer AP discounts and there is a Birnbaum discount that is available sometimes-the coupon is in the back of the WDW Birnbaum Guide.

You will LOVE IT!

We try and go at least twice a year and just can't get enough. It is so relaxing and the CM's make the guests feel like family.

Most of them are from Vero. There are also some in there from WDW.

They have great pool, waterslide, mini golf, massages, campfires with s'mores, wonderful restaurants at the resort and in the surrounding towns.

You can rent bikes, lay on the beach all day, have a massage, play checkers in the Green Cabin Room while you look at the ocean.

www.mousesavers.com usually lists any discounts that are available.

Here's the "official" look at Vero, too. (Although Floridafam's photos really show it off).
