Vero Beach Questions

I know there is a ton of stuff to do in Vero, but how early do I need to book activites? I am thinking about the child stuff- The crafts- They are 4. I don't want to get there and not be able to do anything. Also my husband would like to go Fishing any suggestions? And the boat ride where you can see Manatees? Anyone know anything about that?

We've never booked any of the kids crafts/activities except the un-birthday party in advance. Sorry, can't help with fishing/boat/manatee excursions. Maybe you should phone the concierge?

Lots of great questions.... As far as the daily activities, there are only a few specialized activities, mainly for older kids or adults, that would have any cutoff time. I am sure if you showed up at a young kid's activity a bit late, you would be welcomed and have a happy time.

The CM's a VB are perfect. I've seen them interact wonderfully with 2 year olds to 10 year olds without any help from mom or dad. VB is special in this respect.

I think VB and HHI management understand that they don't have WDW next door and the kids need extra attention. It is much like the Disney cruises... they pay extra special attention and have the programs to keep the kids interested, exporing, and happy.

As far as fishing... I am not a fisherman (of fish), but just north, at the Sebastian Inlet, people flock to try and capture many special fish that can only be found at an ocean inlet. Some ocean fish, some river fish. It is obviously a wonderful place to fish.

I do see on occasion, people fishing the ocean at VB... I just ask that when you see someone like me heading out into the waves (like around 9 am) reel in your lure... and call it a day.

I have also heard of some people catching and releasing at the pond/lake Disney has accross the street.

When we were there in Feb '06, the activities seemed to be a sign up in the morning type thing. I think you might have only be able to sign up that morning but I can't quite remember and could be wrong. The only activity that they told us to be concerned about availabilty was the un-birthday party and that we should make sure to sign up at Eb & Flo's when they opened. We really didn't do any of the more special activities, just a couple of the kid art and craft things. The resort was at full capacity that week.

We really enjoyed our stay. So much so that we purchased a contract to get a BC every 2-3 years! First one is this April!

You usually sign up in the morning for the days activities that are put on at the resort. The only thing that we had to sign in advance on our trip was the turtle watch. We did not want to take a chance on getting picked so we booked ours directly with the organization that does the free ones at the resort.

Maybe a stupid question.... Do the activities cost extra? Also are some of the activities for kids the types you drop them off and pick them up? Or do you stay and watch them?? I have a 3 and 4 year old that are going in a few weeks.

We went last September and we loved it. There is alot to do. My kidlets, dd 6 and ds 8 (at the time), had loads to do. You do need to stay with your child duting the crafts except for the unbirthday party which you do need to sign up for in advance. We signed up for the crafts etc, the day of. Never a problem. There is a nominal fee, some were $3 for members, I think onbe was $7. They painted umbrellas, made sea shell bags, necklaces, cooking class (complete with an apron they decorated), clay animal making, pin trading, camp fire with smores and songs, decorate a mickey plate etc.........too much to do plus swimming and sandcastles. They also had a pool dj and dancing. The umbrellas and chairs are expensive each day. The beach is completely private to Vero which I loved. The water slide is great. My kids want to go back, it is also nice because you really get to know the cm's and they know your child. You can also rent bikes. We also played ping pong and shuffle board. They also have games to sign out. We didn't want to leave.

There are fees for most of the craft activities. Your 3 year old ( not sure about the 4 year old)would be doing the "Tot" activities. A parent is required to stay .

No flaming here, everyone has the right to what they want in a vacation I cannot say for sure but we went the end of Sept and it was dead. Not a lot of kids, my two were often alone in the crafts. However, it got very busy on the weekend as people from FL come for the weekend, lots of kids, lots of people.

It says on the Playful Pastimes that you can sign up for all activities in advance with the exception of the Un-Birthday party, and they restrict the unbirthday party to once per visit.

Actually, I would guess early to mid september when the little kiddies are just back at school and need to be there to get established in their classes. Otherwise, maybe late May when the mid to older kids need to be there to take year end testing.

Just my guess, but I think it makes sense.
