DD gets out of school early in 2006 due to some school construction (May 19). We are thinking about taking our first trip to VB at that time (it is the first resort we bought, but have never been there). Does anyone have any opinion on Vero at that time of year???

Also, any opinion on a studio vs. a "hotel room" with an ocean view?

Our other alternative might be to go at the end of summer in September, since school does also start later for us that year. Any opinions?

Thanks,

John

End of summer is during official months of hurricane season, which may or may not be bad, you know. Mid to late May will be hot as well as end of summer, but maybe not *quite* as hot. I vote for May. Also, I would choose an ocean view inn room over a studio. The couch in a studio would be nice, but it's tiresome, IMHO, to have to pull it out every night. The points are the same for both rooms and that view is fabulous. I just got back last night from my spring break (teacher) in an ocean view inn room, and I wouldn't trade it for a studio for anything. No guarantee of a view with a studio. Enjoy!

Since 2 hurricanes hit Vero Beach in 2004, I would also vote for May. We were just there, and it was cool. The ocean was COLD. My son, who will swim in almost any temp, would go only up to his knees for a few minutes, and then headed for the pool. Hopefully the ocean warms up by May.

We went last year in the beginning of July and the weather was beautiful. There is always a nice breeze coming off of the ocean so it doesn't seem quite as hot. We also had an ocean view inn room and it was great. The view of the sunrise is absolutely beautiful. We were on the forth floor in the center of the rooms looking at the ocean. We had to wait for our room, but the CM told us that we would be very happy with the room. She was right. It was our first trip there and we loved it. I'm sure we will go back again.

Definitely go with a ocean view room...we've had both and it is very much worth the extra$$$

May would be much nicer weather than in August-September. It'll probably be hot but not as HOT as later and with less humidity. Right at the resort you get the ocean breeze but head inland just a smidge and the heat becomes a factor. The water by the end of the summer will also be bathtub warm. Plus, if you go in May and really like it - maybe you'll find yourselves back there in September as well!! ;)

Good point Pam!

May it is!

Go for the ocean view room, it looks just like a studio, except it is configured slightly differently. I have been to VB in early June, and it was wonderful!! It was so romantic, we took the table out onto the patio, and watched the sunrise and in the evenings as the boats headed back into the harbor. It was humid, but there was a breeze, so it actually felt chilly sometimes ;) I spent all morning at the pool, and it was wonderful. August can be really humid, and, as mentioned, last year they got hit several times by the hurricanes. Several areas at VB are still in very bad shape from last year's weather, and housing for the poorer residents is a real problem, but the tourist areas are in good shape, for the most part.
