Alternative to cruise cancellation, our cruise for the first week of December just got canceled so now I have to try to find a replacement vacation. We looked at Disney World however Hollywood studios has no availability and it seems a shame to go to Disney World and not visit. We have Disneyland plan for a week in May so that should suffice. I am now down to either Vero Beach or Las Vegas Tahiti village. My family and I like to be active. I get scared of going to Vero beach because it looks like it could be a bit boring. I can handle a few hours at the beach but then I’m ready to go and do some thing. Or if there’s some other vacation I’m not considering please let me know. We have 75 points that expire at the end of February of next year. I need to use up my vacation time this year as well. We have two kids who are seven and 10 who will be going. Just looking to stay busy. I saw that they had to go Vegas pass that would cover the Grand Canyon and the Hoover dam. I’m not really sure if Tahiti village would be the best place to stay but it looks like it was family friendly. Anyone with any thoughts or ideas is much appreciated. RCI has availability at several properties in Vegas. We also looked at Palm Beach resort which has a kids club but I’m not sure what to do outside of that. We haven’t picked up the kids passports because we were going to Europe next year and we’re waiting so that kind of leaves out a lot of the world. Thanks for any and all advice

Vero Beach and Las Vegas couldn’t be more different.
That said, I’m not sure how Veto Beach compares. :teeth:
Thanks I corrected that. I’m just not sure what to do. This is like the seventh time this year we’ve had to rebook our vacation. Trying to get something in for the end of the year. We live in northern Indiana as there’s nothing really in driving distance that is worth going to in the winter. And we thought about Disney world but with Hollywood studios with no availability that is just not an option. Because even before Star Wars it was our favorite park.

With the age of your children, you could also ride bikes on
the Historic Jungle trail.

We also enjoyed visiting a working orange grove. Maybe the tours aren’t available due to the virus, but there’s much to see and their oranges are delicious!

The CM’s in Vero are excellent!

Yes, two different type of vacas...Vero is a great place, we enjoy and visit often, but quiet. IMO, Dec might be “hit or miss” on weather, might miss out on the best part of Vero in warm weather, beach and pools!Would be great for your kids in the summer months when they can enjoy the beach, pool, mini golf.

Thank you. If the weather in December would not be good and that’s not a great time to go to the beach. I guess I’m going to have to lean towards Las Vegas. I rechecked Disney but there still no availability for Hollywood studios. So I’m guessing that is out. We just went to Universal and see world last year so too new for that as well

VB is for relaxing, not much to do. If you want action, shows... Go to Vegas.

Skiing in Colorado? Tour Smokey Mountains and Dollywood? Nashville & Grand Ole Opry? San Diego - lots to do and warm.

I own at Vero Beach and I love Vero Beach. But....there is a reason it's nickname is Zero Beach. While they have great resort activities for children (at pool and workshops...pre-Covid), it is a very, very quiet destination. There are no restaurants, movies, golf courses etc. immediately outside the resort, so a car is crucial to have. If you want to hang on the beach or by the pool, bike ride, play some tennis, it's a perfect place to relax. Have you considered Hilton Head?

Also not certain how important it might be but the pool is set for refurb now. This would be a deal breaker for us.

Vegas has plenty of hiking at Grand Canyon, Red Rock, Valley of Fire, and the the various parks in Utah, along with some ghost towns, but outside of Red Rock, most areas are at least a 90 minute car ride. You will find some family friendly things in Vegas, but not as much as other cities have to offer. December is also Vegas' "coldest" time of year and depending on where you are, it can actually fell cold because of the complete lack of humidity, so it's not always warm here. I live here and while we really want tourism back, I would be more inclined to go to Arizona or Utah with younger kids. You are still near all of the National and State Parks but may have some more kid friendly activities.

Just coming to add that December in Vegas can get cold. Like dry, windy cold. Fall and Spring best for Vegas; sea turtle season best for Vero (IMO).

I hate to discourage anyone but I've heard Vegas was really bad right now. Of course, no shows, buffets, etc but its brought out very unsavory visitors. Our friends who went stayed at Wynn and never left property again after venturing out down the Strip.

Vero is very nice but the pool not being open would be a deal breaker for me.

Good Luck

I would check out covid restrictions at Vero. It would be good for kids , they have a 2dc club that my kids love but not sure how they would be able to do that now. Plus FL. in general has very high covid rate, so I wouldn't leave the resort.
las vegas with kids... I'm thinking about this myself, and looking at rci choices as well. Let us all know what you find out and which you choose. Very interested.

i live in las vegas if you need any advice or ideas of what to do! i live only about a mile away from the strip!

I would love some ideas for things to do with the kids. We will actually be there tomorrow and due to some problems with our original DVC representative have ended up at Holiday inn Desert Rose instead of Tahiti village which kind of changes our plans of it. Not very excited about the new location or the lack of amenities. LOL. I think I’m more disappointed about the lack of lazy river than the kids are

I have taken a tour of Tahiti village. Hot afternoon did not want to sit by the pool, free timeshare tour and free tickets to Cirque,,,sign me up. Very nice place, not DVC but nice. Did not have my kids on the Vegas trip, surprised how many did. As said before not a lot going on in vegas right now. What about Hilton Head, my kids the same age love it there.
