Vero Beach in 3 weeks - couple of questions

Hi - we are going for our first trip to VB for 3 nights the first week of April, just Hubby and I on this trip and have a couple of questions.

We are driving in from MCO - is there a food store or Super Walmart or Target close by?

Restaurant recommendations for dinner?

Does Vero have a town center with shops? Or is there any other towns close by with nice shops to walk around?

Besides beaching and eating!! Is there anything else we should see or do while we are in the area?

Anything we should remember to bring with us for the room - we have a studio?

There is a Publix about 2 miles from Vero Beach resort that we use that isnt bad. There is also a Super WalMart further up the road probably another 5 miles ( a guess).

Vero does does have a town center have never walked it just driven through and there are some Outlet style malls in the area. Upon arrival at the resort they will give you a map that highlites these.

As far as resturants; if you are looking for a shorts and dress down type of family atmosphere we like Sqiud Lips. The fried Grouper Sticks are simpley to die for!

There is also a small Sushi/Thai place across the street from Capt Hiriams same general vicinity as Squid Lips that is also very good. I forget the name it seomething "Rose" but worth a try.

We also do room service at Vero at least one night, this is especially nice if you have a good view! You can order anything off of the menu's from any of on site resturants, Sonya's etc.

My wife, son,daughter-in law, daughter, and my 2 grandchildren and I are at Vero April 2-9. This is also are 1st time using our DVC points away from WDW.

On your day of arrival I would check out the Walmart. It is probably just like the one from home. Publix is ok but I think Walmart's prices are better. It is not that much further. Also there is a Duncan Donuts close by to the Walmart. We drove out every morning for their coffee. As to shopping, check with guest services.
I hear a lot of positive things about Capt. Hiram's but our family did not care for the food. When your from the North East you kinda get spoiled to our sea food.

You will have a great time. Relax and enjoy the ocean.

We like the WalMart, too. We also like Captain Hiram's and the Sandbar. The seafood is not bad, but the atmosphere is great. In December the main restaurant had still not reopened, but the Sandbar had added some extra tables and heaters and were serving much of their menu. I suspect that the repairs must be finished by now.

The Black Pearl bistro in the center of VB and the Ocean Grill are also very nice places to dine. The Black Pearl has better food IMHO, but the Ocean Grill is more classic Florida and right on the ocean.

If I remember correctly, the WalMart is just north of Captain Hiram's on Rte. 1 and on the left (opposite side).

BTW, when we were at VB in mid December, the Dunkin' Donuts looked to be closed. I would love to know if this was just temporary due to hurricane damage or permanently. Has anyone been there since December?

My DW and I always enjoy having drinks and/or dessert in the Green Cabin Room at the resort. If the weather is nice you can sit outside on the porch and listen to the waves.

I would love more information from people who have been there in July. My husband are using some points for a 6 night stay in an INN room with ocean view for our 12 year wedding anniversary.

I bought a sunshade for the beach, as I burn like crazy and don't want to rent an umbrella. The sun shade is the kind you can throw in the air and it opens automatically.

I got it at a great price and I know I will use it often, and it packs flat! If anyone wants more information, just post or PM me.

We like the Publix on Route 1, you pass it on the way to the Resort,.
We love Charleys South Beach Grill about 8 miles south on A1A. Super Salad bar with lots of extras and a large menu, prices are not bad. Captain Hirams has reopened, we were down in Feburary the food was lousy. The kids ordered chicken fingers with fries, and they had so much salt in them that the kids would not eat them, but I like the location and might give it another try.

FYI Don't order the take out Pizza from Sonya, it was maybe the worst I have ever had.
