January 2018 – January 2019 is shaping up to be my family’s “Disney Year.” My husband, preschool age daughter, and I have plans to go to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort in late Jan/early Feb 2018 after spending time in the Everglades. We’re also considering going back to Hilton Head in the fall of 2018. We may, or may not, stay at the Disney property there. Finally, we’re planning our big once (or twice) in a lifetime trip to Disney World for January 2019.

That’s a lot of Disney in one year. Are there any discounts I should be considering? If we were planning three trips to Disney World, I’d buy season passes, but I don’t see how that would help us out in this situation. Is there anything else I’m overlooking? Also, we are not DVC members and based on our future travel plans, it doesn’t make financial sense for us to buy in. Any thoughts?

If I didn't own but was traveling that much I would think about renting points from an owner at the resorts that I wanted to stay in. It would probably save you money and you would have access to a larger/nicer room. Good luck and have fun!

Surprisingly, it's less expensive to book directly with Disney than renting points for both Vero Beach and Hilton Head. I suspect that's because we're traveling during less busy times. I am definitely planning to rent points for the Disney World trip. Thanks!

I've found it to be a bit cheaper to book through 3rd party sites, especially if you can get discounted gift cards and use a promo code!

Ohh...that's a great idea! I didn't think about booking through a 3rd party site for Vero Beach or Hilton Head.

What was your experience booking through a 3rd party for Disney's Hilton Head? We are DVC members but nothing was available with DVC points for this year in early November. We booked a 2 bedroon through Hotels.com. Will we be treated any differently than if we had used our DVC points for our stay?

It’s been two and half years, but I don’t recall being treated any differently by booking through a third party. We went swimming, played at the beach, went to a campfire and participated in some of the other activities on site. We had a small issue where we booked a studio with a couch, but were assigned to a room in the inn with two queen beds. The staff at Vero Beach were able to switch us to our desired room type. It was one of my favorite vacations.
