Hi,
I am heading to VB for the first time at the end of August. I was planning on renting a car from MCO to VB, but I just learned from DVC that there is a comp. shuttle. It sounds great, but I am not sure how I would get to and from a grocery store for the week.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Rich

What shuttle? Where did you here this and how does it work? WE are going in Aug. and that would save us alot of money.

What shuttle? The only form of transportation that is free is Magical Express, and it does not go to Vero Beach. :confused3

DVC said it was the Magical Express. I first thought she was talking about the Magic Kingdom, but I could have sworn she clarified it to mean VB.

BTW, I accidentally posted the question twice. Anyone know how to delete a message?

Thanks.

You will want a car if you are staying at VB. We just got back and I wouldn't do a trip there without a car. Done 2 trips of either 7 nights and 5 nights.

But then again we like to go out for dinner each night, maybe do some shopping or just go sightseeing.

The city of Vero Beach is about 8 miles away, Sebastian is about 6 miles away. The only thing in walking distance is Orchid Island Pizza and Boppy's(small store).

Since you'll be renting a car to get from MCO to VB (ME does not go to VB), if you take the suggested route (528 to I-95), you'll pass a Publix on the way to the resort soon after you exit I-95.

Sorry, I either misheard or was given the wrong info. Probably the former.

ME definitely does not run between MCO and VB. However, I read a recent visitor speaking of a shuttle going from Melbourne to VB. Don't know any details though.

Stick with the car. There other interesting things in the area you might want to scope out too.

We typically go straight to the resort and check in as early as possible. Then when we have an idea when the room will be ready we head out to the Publix to stock up on things and time it to hopefully find a room ready when we return. They will give you a map that will show you the local area and commercial points of interest including the Publix.

No "ME"...stick with the car.
There is a Publix and a Winn Dixie close to VB, and don't over look the hale's grove store for fresh produce and fruit!!

The Publix is very close. We figure it takes as long from door to door (VB to Publix) as it does just to get off property at Disneyworld. This is a very nice grocery store. Also, Walgreens, Walmart, CVS - they're all close enough to "run over" and get something. Not close enough to walk though.

Would everyone definitely recommend flying into Orlando? Also, do the studio rooms have ocean views? We are debating between an inn room or a studio, but I think I would really like an ocean view. Thank you! We are hoping to go in August.

Only the Ocean View Inn Rooms have guaranteed ocean views.

Melbourne is 31 miles
West Palm Beach is 84 miles.
Orlando is 95 miles
Fort Lauderdale is 130 miles
Tampa is 155 miles

Depending on fares and whether you can get non-stop flights will make a difference. Usually I've gone into Orlando, but once went into Tampa since I could use a freebee there.

We flew into Orlando this year for our VB trip. Last year we flew into West Palm. Car rentals are usually more in West Palm than Orlando.

It is possible... note the following image...

The studios are the ones in purple... They are in the "U" shaped villa buildings and the bottom of the U faces the ocean. So, it is very possible to have an ocean view, but here is the thing... Building 14 is almost completely surrounded by vegetation and the cottages together make it almost impossible to have an ocean view. So.... look for a studio first in bldg 15 and then in bldg 12. That is your best bet.

On the other hand... the OVIR will guarantee you a view, however, it is possible to get and OVIR the is not facing the ocean, but still has an off to the side view. Sooo... if you go with an OVIR, ask for an ocean FACING room.

Good Luck :beach:

Is there much difference between a studio and an Inn room? We have only stayed in an Inn room and we are spoiled rotten with the view. We could try for an ocean view studio, but why try if the rooms aren't that much different?

does anyone know if VB will hold groceries for you like at WDW?

We are coming from VWL and would like to bring some of our "leftover" groceries with us to VB.

Yes they will - same process. Just give Bell Services yourgroceries(seperated between those that need to be kept frozen vs. fridgerated and those that need neither) they will deliever to your room once you've got your assignment and call for them.
