I'm giving my son a week at Vero Beach as a wedding present. I have never used my points there and don't know what to ask for when I make my reservation. I'd like to give them a one bedroom, but if there is a better chance of a ocean view with a studio I will request a studio. What would you request if you needed a room for a special occasion? Is ocean view necessary to make it special? I know absolutely nothing about Vero Beach and the surrounding area.

Any special hints would be appreciated.

OK, here's the thing. You cannot guarantee an ocean view one bedroom or studio. You can guarantee an ocean view room in the Inn. There's really no big difference between a studio and Inn room except an Inn room has two queen beds and a Studio has one queen bed and a pull out couch. A one bedroom would be the deluxe treatment. I guess I would recommend that for a honeymoon. They would have the advantage of a huge hot tube off the bedroom, even if it doesn't turn out to be ocean view. Most views are very nice.

There are a couple of INN rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor that have 1 King bed instead of 2 beds.

Since this is a Honeymoon, you can make it special by calling in-room dining at the resort where they can make up all sorts of special things to put in the room before your honeymooners arrive

Choc. strawberries and champagne
Fruit and cheese plates or baskets
A "conch shell" plate where they use brown sugar for the sand and make edible shells and other nautical type things to eat

There is laying in the hammocks gazing at the stars and listening to the surf.
And just watching the sunrise. Cant be beat.

Try the "Healthy Floridian" breakfast at Shutters - it always has a great selection of fruit - sometimes as many as 10-11 diffenrents kinds, and a muffin, yogurt and granola.

A place I would recommend for activies would be Captain Hirams at www,hirams,c_m
They could rent a boat or jet skis for a long period of time and cruise around the inland waterways. They also have bands there playing outside at the sandbar. It's pretty close. Another place you could rent a boat is at

Nothing is going to be within walking distance of the resort except a little store and pizza place next door (fun to get icecream there after a beach walk). That is because the resort is surrounded by $$$$ condos. It is a beautiful area.

Bombay Louies down in Vero usually has a younger crowd with a DJ spinning dance music.

Hurrican Harbor (Indian River Drive) usually has entertainment in the evenings popular with the seniors.

There is an open air bar for the Harley lovers "Earls Hidaway"just down from Capt Hirams andHurricane Harbor on Indian River Drive It is next to the Red Garlic Bistro(very good EuroAsian Cuisine) and the Mel Fisher museum. Entertainment. Jukebox and live bands on the weekends.

I've wanted to try the star watching activity sometime, where they provide telescopes. The nights can be so clear there.

I've also always been curious about the huge equestrian facility north of the resort and the west side of A1A. The place is huge, with beautiful houses.

Theres 1/2 day fishing with Capt. Gus Brugger Pattern Setter Charters

Just up the road on A1A (about 40 minutes) & over the Causeway into DT Melbourne you can stop and view the Manatees there, and enjoy all the sights of this little historical Florida town.

Go through the tunnel to the lake on the other side of the highway. There are beautiful trails surrounding the lake you can walk. Very peaceful. Interesting foliage, especially if you are from the Midwest.

There are two of these one is on the river about 4 miles south of the DVC at Vero on the right side of A1A. Nice place for adults. Price for two usually runs about $90 with a drink or two. Quiet atmosphere.

There is also theater in Vero, but I do not know the season for this.

The carribean conservation corporation offers turtle walks every monday night during turtle season, you have to call them directly (1-800-678-7853) to make a reservation.
www,cccturtle,o_g. The resort does hold a lottery for turtle walks, but they only take 19 people.

Sonya's was 10% off dinner on wed.

There is a flying school in Vero, and you can see how they build custom airplanes there....

There is an energy encounter over at the nuclear power plant on hutchinson island it's free and it's pretty cool. It's very hands on and informative and basically just cool.
www,fpl,c_m/encounter

There is a manatee place over in fort pierce, it's only a dollar per person and is fairly informative. (its right by the power station)

mclary treasure museum (unlike the other one, it's only a dollar) it was pretty cool too. (and it's pretty much 8 miles from the resort).

there is also a udt-seal museum (navy frogmen) which we haven't been too, but it's right over in fort pierce as well.

Of course you can go to Cape Canaveral while staying at VB it takes about an hour and fifteen minutes or so to get there.

Hope this is helpful. You are giving them a nice gift.

Oh my goodness this has been so helpful! I sincerely appreciated all the time you took to provide this information for me. This was exactly what I was looking for! It's times like this that I find the kindness of Disboard members so amazing! You made one "mother of the groom" very happy - thank you.

Call me a skeptic if you will, but I don't think the view will make or break this wonderful wedding present!

Another suggestion - Undertow Cafe in downtown Vero. Really great food and menu, excellent service, funky Key West style ambiance, good 70s-80s music with Jimmy Buffet/reggae influence. Fun time.

Thank you - that sounds like the type of place he would enjoy. He loves Jelly Rolls at Boardwalk, and loves to have a good time.

Wow, Richard... Excellent post. You know your VB. Hope you intend to become a frequent poster here. Welcome to the DISboards.

I'm with Jim. View is not a make or break in this scenario. Go with the 1 bedroom.

Again, with me not knowing anything about Vero Beach, if I get a one bedroom will it be in the Inn or are there separate units around the grounds of the resort? When I look at the photo it looks like one big building. I'm assuming there is more to the resort than that building. Is it spread out like Old Key West? Besides asking for a one bedroom should I ask for any special area of the resort?

I should have been reading posts in the past about this resort, but I always thought I'd never book it. Now I'm jealous that my son is going to see it before me!

The Inn Rooms are in the main building, along with the restaurants and Green Cabin Room. I'm don't think there are any 1 or 2BR units in the main Inn building. Then, there are smaller buildings with the studios/1BR/2BR around the Inn. The Beach Cottages are also stand alones all along the beachfront.

If you reserve a 1BR and they really want to sit and look at the beach - tell them to head up to the Green Cabin Room and sit outside. It is a lovely place for lunch with a fabulous view or for drinks in the evening.

I haven't been there for a couple of years - so I hope this information about the great view from the Green Cabin Room is still accurate!

Are the beach cottages available as a one bedroom option?

If you're willing and able to pay the price or the points -- sure!
Honestly, that's what my wife & I do. Sometimes we've brought family or friends but 95% of the time it's just the two of us in a BC. I highly recommend it! Keep in mind however, since there are only 6 cottages availability can be a real issue!

Are the beach cottages available as a one bedroom option?

No unfortunately beach cottages are not dividable into separate units since each beach cottages is only 1 stand-alone unit ( they are like Grand Villas at other DVC resorts ) each beach cottage consists of 3 bedrooms & living/dining/kitchen.

You had asked if the other resort buildings are as spread out as OKW : although the other buildings (there are 3 kinda " U " shaped clusters of buildings) are separate from the Inn building the area is definitely much less spread out than OKW so it is a quick & easy walk over to Inn no matter which.

Try this link to googlemaps, I hope it works  it shows VB Resort - Inn is to left of pool and to left of Inn is 2 beach cottages with U building behind; to right of pool is 4 beach cottages with 2 U buildings situated behind.

We love OVIR for the view but jmho you really can't go wrong with other locations either. Again, jmho, the newlyweds may enjoy 1 bedroom villa because I'd consider that more like a suite than hotel room-like, has jacuzzi & king bed too.
Congrats to bride & groom :goodvibes I'm sure they'll love honeymooning at Vero.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what OVIR and jmho mean. Are they different locations of villas? If I ask for a one bedroom unit, is there a recommended location that I should ask for?

OVIR = Ocean View Inn Room
jmho = just my humble opinion

What a wonderful gift you are giving your son and future daughter-in-law!! Congrats to them!! I know if I was doing my honeymoon over I'd love to have that one bedroom villa with that king sized bed and hot tub!!! I'd make sure that when you call you also mention it is their honeymoon and call Vero directly too just a little before their big week and make sure they also know and hopefully that will help them get a nice view!!!!

You will want to reserve a one bedroom....all the building that have them are fine....just make sure you request 2nd or 3rd OCEAN view....they may not get a great view but the one bedrooms are great:

1. Jacuzzi bathtub
2. Kitchen so they don't have to eat out every meal....esp breakfast
3. Lots of lovely space, especially if there is bad weather
4. Washer and dryer in the room....great if you only wash swim suits

What a nice gift!

We stayed at Vero in a 1 bedroom and lucked out with the view by getting room # 1528 which had a direct ocean view. Ask for that. They won't guarantee it but it may help.
