VERO BEACH and Noel-Anyone know if there has been an impact on Vero?

I have been watching the Weather Channell where JimC. is in Singer Island and showing the erosion of the beach. I was at Singer in august anf really hate to see the erosion brought on by the storms. I was wondering if the beach at Vero has been affected at all by the storm surge. I know it is not a rain thing-but an ocean/waves thing.

I agree. I can't imagine that there hasn't been some further erosion at Vero. We were there about two months ago, and were saddened by how much of the beach they've lost in the past few years. If things keep going the way they ahve been some of th ebeach cottages could be threatened.

There are far more whitecaps than usual but it doesn't seem horrific. Also heard that they are now predicting it may turn away sooner.

Was over in Sebastian(mainland) ,Melbourne Beach and just north of the VB Resort near the Inlet on Monday and Tues. The beach erosion was light to moderate earlier in the week but for sure it has gotten worse like olderman said. The weather was nasty and got a good sandblasting. There were pretty good whitecaps with the northeasterlies even on the IntraCoastal.

All things considered, the storm stayed out from the VB shore. And the real brunt will be felt in NewEngland. VB has weathered a couple of direct hits with hurricanes since 1994. It will take a lot more than what has just happened to change the beaches on the Atlantic coastline around Florida.

The big question for Nova Scotia, I think, would be how the approach of the storm coincides with the tides in the Bay of Fundy. If the storm surge hits at high tide, they could suffer a lot of damage. If it hits at low tide, they might not even notice! Hopefully, they'll be fine.

In fact the wind and beach erosion on the Space and Tresure Coast Beaches was mainly caused by a High Pressure System "squeezing" the air between it and Noel. As the storm moves north it's actually pulling drier air into FL.

Sunny friday and Sat with high winds and waves were huge, we were not able to go into the ocean at all. Lots of beach erosion too there was no beach as we know it. There were no chair or umbrella's on the beach beach there was NO beach. I was in the chair swap and never used the chairs. All in all we still had a great time and enjoyed the resort.

Does Florida have any beach restoration program in place? Here in MD, our taxes provide for the pumping of sand back onto the beach, such as is done in Ocean City. I sure hope there is some beach left at Vero!

Yes. There has been an extensive restoration project going on ever since the storms of '04 up and down the Coast It is a very touchy subject. Many locals don't want sand pumping and seawalls fixed leaving it to Mother Nature to decide, while others do.

Here is Wabasso Beach next door and the Resort area just a few days after being allowed back on the Island after Hurricane Jeanne struck. They were already working on the Resort.

This is just over month later when the resort reopened and they quickly put in place a temporary Resort Beach Access until the new and improved access was built(The old one suffered damage almost everytime a storm of any type would come through. Jeanne broke it in two.) The public beach area at Wabasso remained untouched for some time while the Disney Beach restoration was well under way.

Imho you can bet the powers that be, will be restoring the Resort section of the beach ASAP if the majority of the sand is gone as Lenc324 stated.

I didn't think a private entity like Disney could just "Restore" a beach? I thought that was a regulated project. Maybe someone from Florida knows, but I recall reading some things on "hearings" etc. a few years ago.

Plus if you don't have a cooridinated effort then the next storm will probably just "blow" your beach away which means money right into the Atlantic.

It is my understanding that the States own the ebb & flow area (the area between low & high tide) of beaches so I think you are most likely right.

I was at Vero in a beach cottage (#1150) from Oct 28 - Nov 1. It was rainy and windy, but we didn't let that stop us from having a blast! Here is a picture I took of what is left of the beach.

Lexxiefern thanks for the pic was planning on being over there yesterday but was held hostage by the F&W festival Great to hear you still had a good time. From your pic Looks like the beach access held up pretty well and the dunes are still intact.

Believe your right but they must be able to pull some strings to get things moving and renourishing "their" beach.

It was still a great trip though! It only rained here and there and it was pretty fun to go down the slide in rain

Bobbi, we went to Capt Hiram's and my food was good, but everyone else didn't really like it. Oh well. We had a waterside table and it started to rain, so we had to move because we started to get really wet!

The beach cottage is awesome!
