Next year we are thinking of taking the 4 day cruise and staying at Vero for a few days. Does anyone know how far Vero is from the port and which airport would be most convenient? Thanks
Tara

Hi Tara:

My husband and I just did 5 nights at Vero Beach and then the 4-day cruise last October. We flew into Orlando and rented a car. The drive from the airport to Vero was approximately 2 hours. Then after our stay in Vero we drove up to Port Canavral (approximately 1 hour). Left the car at Port Canavral for the cruise and then drove to BWV for an extra night before flying back to NJ. For that time of year, we did not find the traffic to be that bad.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Terry
Thats the time of year that we were thinking about. How did you find the weather?

Melbourne, FL is actually the closest airport to Vero, about 45-60 mins away; also the closest to Port Canaveral. It is a lovely little airport, easy to navigate and friendly, but means a change of planes for most folks. We generally prefer to fly into MCO so we can get a direct flight, but if you can get a good deal to MLB or you have to change planes somewhere anyway, I'd recommend MLB.

MLB is 24 miles from Port Canaveral, and 34 miles to Disney's Vero Beach Resort (which is geographically in Wabasso Beach).

From the resort to the port, it might take 80 mins (all on 1A1 along the barrier islands between the ocean and the Indian River, so pretty views, but maybe some congestion in settled portions).

Sorry this took so long to answer. Haven't been around for a few days.

The weather last October was perfect. We were able to take sunrise walks on the beach in shorts and t-shirts. Swimming in the afternoon. The only unfortunate situation we encountered was the day we arrived the ocean was as calm as could be and we didn't go swimming. The next day and for the rest of our stay there, the ocean changed and was quite rough. Did go in swimming but didn't want to stay in very long. It was the pool for us. Great pool and loved the pool slide.

The other great thing we noticed while we were there was the shelling. The day we got there thru the end of the following day, the shells on the beach were the most plentiful I think I have ever seen on any beach. After the 2nd day, the tides changed and no more shells.

Enjoy.
