Long time OKW'er. Here to vent; sometimes you need support. A little background: My daughter will not let me see my grandchildren anymore. No, really, nobody (friends, relatives, her brother, father, aunt) knows why. Growing up since kindergarten, she had a BFF. She is 31. Whenever I entertained (cooking for 3 days), I would hire her for party prep - especially when she had an unplanned child and especially at Christmas to put more money in her pocket. She was also diagnosed with MS in her mid 20s. I love her; she calls me every Mother's Day; and allows me to be a part of her and her son's life. The child is now 8 and a Star Wars Junkie like his mom. We also had sibling dogs twice now from two different breeders. She's a fabulous mom.
Last night, I received an email from SWA for PRIME Day fares. I already have a 2 bed booked for 12 days in August. The rates were a steal (and, yes, I know they are subject to change; it was 1:00 a.m.). I shot off a text inviting her, the child and the child's dad. I will need to buy her tickets for the parks, groceries, airfare, whatever. I am totally cool with that. I used to take her to WDW with my DD when they were 10 >18. She is a delight.
What was not so cool? SWA fares were more than double (full day flight schedule still open in all categories) early this morning when she said she wanted to go. I am very fortunate that I travel for business and have earned all the points needed to cover this. BUT boy am I aggravated with SWA!
Also, she is worried about expenses while there. I reminded her that my children's grandparents used to give them Disney $$ for their birthdays. Both the child and mom have birthdays in the next few weeks. Her parents do well enough (divorced and remarried) but don't seem to support her.
Her brother is active duty - I cannot recall if the member has to be there. I bought my daughter's tickets through the military when she and her husband came in 2018; I needed her ID to order them from Shades of Green. Any insights before I do a deep dive? I am paying regardless of where we ge them.
As I am newly divorced and recently moved, I do not have the same level of funds available that I did previously. Any suggestions on cutting down food expenses? I will do a large shopping but don't usually cook in the villa. Wondering about LL. It has been more and more pricey...and now it will be x 5. He HAS to go on all things Star Wars. Any leaks on pricing levels?
I know I will just end up taking them wherever and how do you resist buying the bubble wand...I can't. I so wish I could be sharing all of these memories with my grandchildren, too. That's it. Thank you for listening.
