Venting about $199 ticket offer

This offer is on the DVC member website...I have read some posts asking about using them towards annual passes. What exactly does that mean? Is that somehow going to save money on the annual pass? It's probably blatantly obvious, but I don't get it?

Our family has the PAPs now, they expire in June. Is there someway that buying these $199 tickets could help us renew or update our passes?

Thanks!

p.s. I see that members can buy up to 8 of these, I believe. If we bought one for a friend traveling with us, could she use it towards the purchase of an AP or PAP?

Not really. If you buy the $199 ticket, you can turn it in and get a $199 (plus tax) credit towards the renewal price of the DVC annual pass. So you will not be saving any money or getting any additional discount to the price members already pay for the DVC renewal.

So the only "advantage" is that you could pay part of the renewal price now and the rest when you get the renewed passes. Keep in mind that all of these types of transactions must be done on site. Will your renewal window fall during a on-site vacation?

And rather than go thru that bother I'd just put the $199 aside and buy the pass later.
