VENT - Why Is It..

That the ice-cream man can no longer go down the street playing 'Turkey In The Straw' because it bothers people....but the guy 2 doors down from me who is going thru a mid-life crisis (says his wife) can sit in his driveway in his new red convertible BMW BLARING music for 1 - 2 hours EVERYDAY when he comes home from work - and there's nothing the police can do about it????????? My brain is thumping right now, and I have the AC on and ear plugs in! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I would think the cops could do something if you call them. Don't police have to take complaints seriously?? (see lemonaide stand post)

We also have a noise ordanance....but the ice cream man still comes thank goodness

I WISH the cops would do something! Unfortunately, he is not breaking any laws here. It is not profanity-filled music, or he would have to turn it down. The noise ordinance does not kick in until 11 PM, so that does not apply.

The really bad thing? Mr. Mid-life crisis KNOWS this, and tells you so when you ask him to turn it down!

If there is no noise ordinance until after 11, then why is it not acceptable to play "Turkey in the Straw" at ice cream truck levels?

You need a noise abatement ordinance in your town that not only bans loud noises after a certain time at night until the next AM but one that sets a maximum DB level allowed at all times of day. Do you have any kind of public town meetings where you live? If you do I would suggest that you start a grass roots petition campaign and find out how you can get yourself on the agenda at one of the town meetings.

Don't worry about it, he won't be around for long. Here's how the midlife thing goes for men:
1. red converable
