UGH...I just spent over 20 minutes of my time and dime with an obviously less than stellar CM trying to change the date of my Candelight Processonal dinner....after 20 minutes, she tells me she made the new reservation, but is unable to cancel the old one (that's what she was trying to do when she had me on hold) so the BEST she can do is give me their number (she really couldn't tell me who the "their" were) and for me to call yet another 407 number and cancel my previous reservation. When I asked her why she was unable to cancel the reservation, she didn't know...she was willing to put me on hold again so I could wait for her supervisor, but at that point, I knew I wouldn't have been very polite so I declined.

If Disney is unwilling to have an 800 number available, they could at least have competent CM answering the phone

Sorry for the rant

Thank goodness for cell phone with unlimited free long distance.

Am I overly cautious? I don't give my personal info out over a cell phone, especially CC info. I always thought someone might be able to retrieve the info with a scanner and the right frequencies.

Yes, I would say that is overly cautious. :) I only use a cell phone, for everything.

There are things CM can do and there are things they cannot do, they don't have unlimited access to everything. I am sure she was competent and trying to help you out. They have not had an 800 number for the general public in a LONG time, mainly because it was abused and was costing them a lot of money.
I guess I am used to being on hold, ever try to call Microsoft?
My dime, min. 30 mins. hold.

I hate the fact that there is no 800 # when every other company has one. I've often spent up to 40 minutes waiting to get connected and then I was subjected to a survey... on my dime! I wouldn't mind if it were an 800#.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. At a nickel a minute, 20 minutes is a dollar. $1. Put it in perspective. Most of us do nothing when the government takes 30%, 40%, 50% of our money in taxes but we get upset over a dollar.

I commented to a CM about not having an 800 number. Her reply was that their call volumes would triple. I said that would be a good thing, more hours for her. And she said she was already working 60+ hours/week! Ouch!

I did get an 800 number on the receipt for more PH that I got at TDS. I tried it once. Lots of menus to go thru, had to enter the serial number of my tix. I finally did reach a human.

Just easier to use the cell.........

Actually, I've heard that cell phones are pretty secure but you can easily overhear information given on a cordless phone. Anyone else know for sure?

Yes you can. When our kids were infants we had a Fisher Price baby monitor and we always got the same ladys phone conversations clear as a bell. At that point we just bought a new one, and got no interference.

Well, it's not about the money... Disney is the only corporation of its size that I have ever called that does not have an 800 number. And Gail, while I obviously realize the CM have no control of the situation, when someone puts me on hold for a few minutes after each time I've answered her question, then she comes back on and asks me to repeat the same information multiple times and then prices the meal wrong, spells our name wrong and has the wrong day and then tells me she hit the wrong button and asks me to repeat everything again...I think I'm being kind by calling her less than stellar.

20 minutes to change a reservation - and not even having it done in that time - seems like pretty poor service to me. Whether it cost her $1 or $100 it is still money she shouldn't have had to spend. More importantly it is time she'll never get back. Not sure what the debate is about

So instead of making excuses for the CM/Disney or debating the cost of long distance vs. cell or how deluged they would be with an 800 number - I'll just offer some sympathy to the caller & wishes for better luck next time :teeth: :hyper: :sunny:

Look folks, if Disney had a 800# the tickets and room rates would go up. Nothing is free. I am sure most of us have a cell phone, get the unlimited long distance package and give disney a call.

I am sorry to say but not all cell phones are secure. If you believe that you are only fooling yourself. I work in law enforcement and I can tell you I have seen people who have gotten personal information (identity theft) from BOTH cordless and cell phones. There are scanners out there that will pick up some cell phone frequencies. I personally never give out personal info on my cordless or my cell.

You are asked if you want to take a survey at the end of the call, that is not being subjected to anything, you can hang up.

The problem is, the survey is at the beginning of the call. They want your life history just to make a PS. How many times have you visited the WDW resort? Was your last visit within the past 3 years? Then you are put on hold..............

Bummer.

If you get the survey questions, hitting the -0- on the keypad should bypass the survey and at least get you in the queue. I call from my cell phone while in the traffic queue in Chicago and listen to nice Disney music while on hold, for free. :)

The only argument that I can come up with for no 800# is this. Imagine how many people would be calling 3-4 times a week to change this that and the other thing or verify everything since the call was free instead of planning ahead when they finally have their ducks in a row and know what they really want. Especially with the internet out there, usually we can get most of our questions answered on this wonderful board :)
