I will apologize in advance for starting something but I am really ticked about this.

I was driving behind a car today (thankfully no kids) that had a variety of things written, yes written in sharpie I assume, all over it.
It also had various bumper stickers.

This person had a lot of things to say and since I was stuck at a light behind her I had the opportunity to look at it.

It had some bumper stickers that I dont agree with but hey thats her right to have them. I drew the line though at the one that said, all spelled out, "F" Bush.

I couldnt care less if she supports Bush or not but Why does she have to be crude about it??

Why should MY kids be exposed to that?
Why should I have to explain that to my kids?

I'm not a prude but I dont appreciate that.

For the record I would be just as offended if it said that about anyone or anything regardless of their political affiliations.

There was a poster here the other night saying if the same thing that happened to Kennedy happened to Bush he/she would be popping open Champagne. Some people are just vicous rabid hatemongers. :confused3

No offense here - I agree 100%. I don't care what your affiliations/opinions are, I don't need to see crude language all over the place.

For the record, if you're going to put a bumper sticker on your car, you'd better think about the WHOLE picture. For example...

I work in a very liberal college town. :hippie: Therefore, every 3rd car is a Volvo. There's nothing wrong with that, in theory (they are safe, etc.), but one day I rode behind a very old, stinky-grey-cloud-blowing, volvo with several bumper stickers. One of which said:

"Breast milk. Better for Baby, Better for Mommy, Better for the Environment"

Well, if you're going to worry about the environment, perhaps you should drive a car that doesn't spew out as much ghastly emmissions as a semi! :furious:

I agree that vulgarities are unnecessary, especially in a public setting even when it's only adults around. Their use shows a lack of respect to those around you.

That said, I wholeheartedly support any individual's right to free speech within the legal boundaries set by the courts. IOW, anything goes except slander/libel. It doesn't make it easy when young eyes and ears are around and I've been known to politely ask total strangers to please watch their language out of respect for others around them (kids and adults).

Unfortunately, profanity is part of life and sadly there's no way to eliminate it. When encountered, it's best to explain it as best as one can, teaching younger minds that it is disrespectful and impolite to use (to say the least).

While I agree with the sentiment, I'm with you that it is completely classless and inappropriate to use that kind of language to express it, especially somewhere where it can be seen/heard by children. :sad2:

Exactly that is someone with no class, and there is plenty of them. Just recently on Seventh Heaven they had a show where someone wrote N*** ger lover on someone's car. From what I gather this is not uncommon. There are plenty of sick hateful people in this world. Shame we can't shelter our kids from them cause they are all over the place.

That's such a shame. I wish signs, bumper stickers etc...with foul language were illegal if they are visible in a public place where kids could read them.

I am a Bush supporter but if I saw a bumper sticker like the one you saw but with Hilary's or Kerry's name on it, I'd be just as angry. It's horrible on either side of the fence. :sad2: Classless.

I agree completely. Just because you have the "RIGHT" to do something, doesn't always mean you should.

Couldn't agree more. Common sense and class are really lacking in today's society amongst all ages, races, classes and genders :sad2:

True that!

Thanks for not taking offense everyone. Part of me just thinks " oh its just a kid whos learning to express herself" (she was a teenager) but thats still no excuse. Its still offensive and classless. The sad thing was she pulled into MY neighbourhood

Hopefully she is just visiting!!

I don't like hateful bumper stickers like that either, regardless of who they're criticizing. A person can state their opinion without resorting to nastiness IMO.

Vulgar and totally unnecessary. I wouldn't even be a passenger in a car that had that on it, much less drive it. :sad2:

If by some possibility this was done, would you also make it illegal for people to use foul language in public when kids are present? How far do we go in giving up a constitutional right in an attempt to "protect" children?

I agree this is crude, classless, rude, obnoxious, tasteless, etc. I'd prefer even as an adult not to be subjected to this language. However, I am hesitant to start down the path of censorship not knowing where that path might end.

If there is a child present, perhaps it is a teaching moment. "Do unto others as you will have them do unto you." Explain all the things that the president has done to "screw" other people and then explain that the bumper sticker is just indicating that he should get what is coming to him. ;) ;) However, I don't think we need to resort to vulgarity or the vulgar expression of anything, especially in public and on a bumper sticker.

I really don't want to debate my thoughts. I just said it was a 'wish' of mine not something I'm actively trying to make happen. To me, foul language on a sign is similar to nudity. Something I 'wish' wouldn't happen.

I would have gotten the license # and called the police. surely there is a law against it.

They're words, get over it.

See? But this is the joy of America, she has a right to put it on her car and I have a right to complain about it! :)

I dont happen to WANT to get over it. So deal with it.

Some people simply have no manners, the car you saw belonged to one of them.
