There is a lot of references made about vendors on the beach in St. Martin, St. Thomas etc. really pushing you to buy their wares. I'm curious, what kind of things do they sell and in what price range? I personally, love buying local kind of stuff but of course, it depends on what it is......

Thanks,
Jenn

When I was staying in St Thomas we went to Coki Beach a couple times and never had anyone trying to sell us anything....now when we were staying in Nassau they tried to sell us everything, including drugs.

We had a few walking up/down the beach. Some were selling hats, beach towels, offers to braid hair, massages... They were never pushy and would continue walking when we said no thanks.. Maybe some beaches are more popular for them to be at. I can't remember the name of the beach we were on, it had a hotel on the left side of it and a small bar that served food as well.

Great Bay Beach in St. Maarten was loaded with people selling their wares. A polite no thank you was all it took to get them to move along, but the same people would approach you again on the way back. It was very annoying, but didn't ruin our beach day.

In St. Maarten, we were offered jewelry, towels, t-shirts, etc. We purchased some hats for $5 and bought some caribbean button down shirts for $10. They offer all sorts of stuff. We were descended upon by hair braiders as soon as we walked up from the water taxi stop and some were a little pesky. Get the today's only special of $1 per braid if you do it and agree on a maximum price before she starts as they almost always go over. But overall a polite no thank you sent them on their way, but there were a lot.
