I have quickly reviewed the counter service menus and know I won't starve in the parks but I was wondering if there were any "great, must have" meals at either of the parks. I am mainly thinking counter service but am open to other meals. I would also love to hear about any restaurants off property that have great vegetarian meals. We are in Socal for 10 days so we plan to get around. :thumbsup2 Any great tofu dishes??

TIA!!!!

Veggie gumbo in a bread bowl at...Royal Veranda? Something like that...a counter service place above the POTC line. It's salty, but terrific and filling (we share it)

I noticed there's a portobello mushroom dish on the Blue Bayou menu.

Other than that, I'm going to be finding it all out in September!

Rancho has veggie options. Carnation Cafe has an awesome breakfast menu that you could order from at lunchtime - cinnamon roll french toast...yummy.

There is also the place in DCA that sells soup in a bread bowl - I think I had broccoli cheese soup there - very filling and yummy too.

Ariels serves a terriffic veggie pasta but that would be a bit $pendy!

Depending on what version of Vegitarian you are there is also the cheese monti cristo at cafe orleans.

Saw what I thought was a funny shirt at DL this weekend regarding this. Said "Vegitarian, old indian word meaning bad hunter"... :)

Sadly, unlike Disney World, Disneyland is not very strong on vegetarian offerings, and in my experience they are really not very helpful about special dietary requests (again, unlike WDW).

I seriously pity anyone who is a vegan trying to eat at Disneyland. Many of the Disneyland restaurants have ONE vegetarian offering, which is usually lacto-ovo. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am not a vegan so hopefully it won't be too big an issue. Funny that there are less vegetarian options at DL as I see Californians in general as more health minded eaters. There are a few tofu dishes at WDW that are amazing, I was hoping for the same at DL.

Also...what nearby grocery store does everyone go to? I would love a store that had a nice produce/health food section.

I was a vegetarian for 7ish years (gave it up a few months ago) and I have to agree - WDW is FAR more accommodating than DLR. During my last trip, I was still veggie and my favorite meals were the 3 Cheese Monte Cristo and the pasta over in Tomorrow Land (usually comes with chicken, just tell them no thanks). :)

The broccoli cheese soup isn't totally veg, they use Chicken broth. However they do have a good chili in a bread bowl

My Places to catch veg offerings:
Goofy's kitchen has a fun buffet with plenty to eat
Hungry Bear has a hearty meat free burger
Love the gumbo mentioned above
Love the boudin bread place for the bread bowl chili as mentioned earlier
Rancho del Zoloco has Taco salads and cheese enchilada plates
Mimi's across the street has soup salad and veg pasta, served with great muffins
Rocket rods has great salad alright pizza and I hear good pasta
Blue Buyou has a mushroom dish with a creole like flavor, it's Ok better for the atmosphere than anything ask for the wedge salad without the sausage added
Rainforest cafe in downtown disney has a huge simple but great wedge salad we always get the Margherita pizza as well.
Storytellers cafe has an ok buffet with great omlettes
The River belle terrace will subtitute bacon in the brekfast combos for something else.
The DCA'S Mexican food is alright with vegetable tacos or burrito plates
I really didn't care for Pizza oom mow mows pizza
I hear the place to go is Napa Rose with offerings like Butternut squach raviolis, yum

OMG not butternut squash ravioli....I've been eating the Lean Cuisine version of that for 2 months now...I'm not sure I could handle eating more of that even at a fancy place. :)

That was a great list, by the way!

I am a long time veggy and actually had worse issues with this at WDW but I think its because I know where to go in DL.

Rancho has a great deal on a Grilled Veggie Tostada its large enough to share and a good deal at $9.99

Carnation Cafe (I think its next to the ice cream shop on Main Street) had yummy sandwhichs

Rocket's by SM has lots of Pasta dishes and salads

The Veggie Gumbo is very good and if you are going to make it before the sad closer of Bengal BBQ their veggies are yummy!!

I know you were talking Counter Service but Blue Bayou has an amazing (if you like Mushrooms) Vegan meal its portabello mushrooms on a delicious veggy cous cous. I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!

DCA- Has some yumminess too my favorite place is The Tratoria (next to the wine tasting) it is sit down but has compareable prices to CS, they have several veggy options that are delicious. I love the veggie sandwhich on pretzel bread. And you can have a nice glass of wine with your meal. The sandwhich is under $10.00.

Also ask many places will work with you, I have never had an issue.

I also want to add that Jazz Kitchen has been fantastic with me! After they took one of my favorite meals of their menu I have been able to have the kitchen fix me something and it has always been wonderful. Ric and Paul are the best!

The high end places also have great dishes and will work with you Like Napa Rose and Vineyard Room.

Since this is a nice gathering of veggie people, I'll ask here.

Does anyone know about the churros? I assume they are fried...any idea of what they use in the fryer?

I don't often eat counter meals at DL but I actually quite like the grilled vege sandwich at the Tomorrowland Terrace.
