Wondering if any of you wonderful Disney cuisine afficianados could help me find the best vegetarian options at WDW? I can always do salad or pasta, but wondering what else I might find, especially since half of our eating will be quick service (with slimmer veggie pickings, other than the failsafe French fry... :D).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Try Boma, Sanaa, and/or Jiko at the Animal Kingdom Lodge - they have tons of vegetarian options! Also, the vegetarian chilli and the brocolli slaw & hummus sandwich at Columbia Harbor House in MK are amaaaaazing. The veggie burgers everywhere are also a good option :)

Dinner at Boma is a MUST!!!! LOTS of delicious veggie options! (not sure of something? chefs behind counter were very friendly and helpful!) :thumbsup2

Veggie sandwich at The Plaza was also delicious!!!

Thanks guys! I do remember Boma being particularly yummy. :) Never would have thought of Columbia Harbor House being an option... definitely need as many ideas as possible. Ideally, we'll find spots that accommodate my vegetarian self, plus my non-veggie DH, pretty-easy-to-please DS 6 and terribly picky DD 4.

Yes, we're quite difficult to please. :rolleyes1

Honestly, I'll make it work if I need to, but would love to actually love the meal that I'm paying a pretty decent price for. Here's where I've got ADRs (no DDP, so all OOP - rest will be in (off-site) hotel room, off-site restaurants, and on-site Quick Service):

11/28 Dinner: T-Rex (DS' fave)
11/29 Lunch: 50s Prime Time (might be tough)
11/30 Bfast: Crystal Palace (buffet - easy!)
12/2 Bfast: Akershus (easy!) / Dinner: Garden Grill (wondering if I can call & request veggie portion?)
12/3 Dinner: Chef Mickey's
12/4 Lunch: Coral Reef (I may actually do fish here)

Gonna check out the menus on the WDWinfo site, but am willing to change a few things around to accommodate everyone if there are better options.

Thanks again for your help!

With Garden Grill you MUST call ahead for a veggie option.

The veggie stuffed pepper at 50s is pretty good.

Of your choices T Rex will be the toughest.

Almost all counter services have a veggie burger or veggie wrap and the burgers when coupled with a fixin's bar are really good. Another good counter service is Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT.

If you're actually a pescatarian (seeing as you mentioned being willing to eat fish at Coral Reef) you'll have no problems (everywhere practically has a basic shrimp or fish dish) and I'm judging by that that you don't care about chicken broth and the like. Also, if you're going to eat fish PLEASE don't tell the waiter you're vegetarian (you aren't if you're eating fish) it only furthers the lie that vegetarians eat fish and creates more trouble when asking for a true vegetarian dish.

Some good veggie CS options are -

MK - Veggie sandwich at Columbia Harbour House

DHS - Veggie sandwich at Backlot Studios

Epcot - There are veggie options at Sunshine Seasons and in Morocco

DTD - Wolfgang Puck Express

Definitely try Tusker House at DAK-lots of veggie choices there!

Also, Columbia Harbour House in MK has great hummus sandwiches!!

Tangierine Cafe in Epcot/Morocco has amazing vegetarian platters as well (falafel, hummus, taboule, couscous...)

I would agree about Tangerine Cafe at Morocco - gorgeous veggie platters, really delicious :). Second the sandwich at the Harbour House, scrummy.

I was veggie last time we went (2008 - now eat fish and it's so much easier) but to be honest we had very little difficulty finding food. Most places have a veggie option if you ask (best to mention it at booking).

For fine dining, California Grill had good choices and if you can afford Victoria and Alberts you get your very own bespoke veggie menu prepared by the chef - now that was something special I can tell you! Utterly divine!

You may want to call Disney Dining. They can make a note on your ressie for your Table Service restaurants. I traveled last summer with a friend's daughter, who is a vegan. We ate at Boma, Cape May Cafe (breakfast), and Teppan Edo. The chef came out at each restaurant to speak to Meg and they walked the buffet with Meg at Boma and Cape May to show her what she could have. The also made her something special at Cape May (but I can't remember for the life of me what it was)

50's Prime Time has a vegetarain option, used to be a stuffed pepper, might but have changed.

You don't have to call ahead at Garden Grill, you can just tell them your a vegetarian when you check in and you'll get the vegetarian option (at one time it was a portabello mushroom, vegies, and polenta), might have changed.

Most quick serve have a vegetarian option, best is the Lighthouse sandwich at Columbia or I really like the grilled vegie sand. at Backlot in Studios (I think that the Studio Catering Co. has it too).

At starring rolls they have veggie sushi prepackaged.

At Main St. bakery they have a tomato and mozarella sandwich.

FlameTree sucks for veg. in my opinion - a fruit platter or salad w/no chicken - neither a substantial meal.

One favorite is at Riverside they have a make your own pasta with tons of veggies to put in it.

It's not hard to eat vegetarian in the World, but you do need to plan on ahead so your not stuck eating a veg. burger every meal. For TS you can call ahead, but you don't have to, they'll accomodate you if you tell them when you get there.

Restaurantasaurus has a new roasted veggie sub that's served with sweet potato fries. I haven't tried it yet, though. Aslo, I'm crazy about the tofu dish at Sci-Fi.

I agree. DH loves Flame Tree but DD is a veggie. She will usually run to Pizzafari for her food, and then we meet at the table. The Picnic was a very nice option too, while it lasted. We could get some BBQ, supplemented with a picnic for 2 or 3 people, and do a little buffet. I will miss that option. (I hear the picnic is no more.)

Thanks everyone! I plan on printing this thread and taking it with me. Although I will eat fish if it's the only option, I much prefer not to, so am very glad to see that it shouldn't be an issue. :)

50's Prime Time no longer serves the stuffed pepper, but there is a new veggie option (haven't tried it). If it doesn't look appealing to you though, I'm almost certain you can request a veggie burger (Also, try the PB&J milkshake!!). Although I've never been, I would highly recommend calling Garden Grill in advance. I'm pretty sure I've read that the veggies that normally come served family style are in some sort of meat-based broth or sauce.

For CS meals, my favorites are...
MK - Columbia Harbour House - Lighthouse Sandwich. Yummy sandwich w/ hummus, tomatoes, and broccoli slaw. Sometimes the hummus can be a bit runny, but it's still my favorite option at that park.
AK - Restaurantosaurus - Grilled Veggie Sandwich. CS options are pretty low in the park. Basically this or pizza. I was a little disappointed to hear that this place no longer has veggie burgers, but I was pleasantly surprised by this sandwich (provolone cheese, zucchini, roasted peppers, mushrooms, possibly other veggies I can't remember? HaHa).
DHS - Rosie's - If the weather is nice enough to sit outside, I like to get one of these veggie cheeseburgers. Pretty basic, but decent. If it's too cold/hot to sit outside, I think Pizza Planet is good, but I'm admittedly not picky about pizza.
Epcot - If the newly opened cantina is similar to the pre-renovation one, I'd say go here. Despite the fact that the old cantina had no veggie options on the menu, they were willing to make anything with what they had on hand (lending to lots of options). I had an awesome veggie burrito here - super delicious and a generous portion...so it's worth asking. I hear great things about Tangerine Cafe as well.

If you're considering adding any more TS meals, definitely consider Rose and Crown. Their vegetarian shepards pie was surprisingly my favorite entree the entire trip, and the prices are pretty inexpensive in comparison to most other restaurants.

eat vegetarian for lunch while at Disney. Not because I am vegetarian but because we travel in the summer. The heat makes me want something lighter for lunch.

A couple of things that I like that are not mentioned above are the Mediterranean Salad at Pinocchio Haus and the Veggie Cuban at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot.

Check out the dining menus - they are all there for CS too & they are all pretty accurate with the exception of 1 or 2 items sometimes depending on when that particular menu was updated.
For 50s I saw a pasta dish & a fish sandwich (you said you might eat fish at Coral), or note it on the reservations, maybe they will make something for you.

People tend to forget about Ohana's, last May my wife And I both veg. had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The Chef (TJ) made us a fabulous Vegan fiesta, even the people at the table beside ours were asking what we were eating. TJ made us a 5 course vegan meal to die for, even the kids enjoyed it. In fact we are returning in April and the kid requested we do it again. Hummus and pate, chili potatoes, noodles, tofu tower and lots more

I'm only a pescetarian, but I thought Boma was excellant, and was not only totally satisfied with the vegetarian options, but loved them all as well. Jiko was also really good, though a bit on the pricey side.

FWIW, last time we went I had the vegetarian option at Garden Grill (without calling ahead) and I really disliked it. It was a pumpkin thing that was just not tasty.
The vegetarian pasta dish at 50's PT was really yummy.
I didn't do many CS, so can't comment on them.

I love the vegetarian chili at Columbia Harbor House. I couldn't actually FIND it on the menu when I was there last week, but they had it. If you don't see any viable options on the menu, just ask. Sci Fi Dine In had veggie burgers (but the Gardenburger kind which i don't really like) although they weren't on the menu, and Beaches and Cream had no problem making me a grilled cheese.

I had the Chinese vegetarian platter at Sunshine Seasons and it was good. I'd really only wanted the rice and broccoli but they acted like that wasn't an option so I got the veggies and noodles too.

My husband wanted Flame Tree BBQ for his birthday dinner so I had the fruit plate and some fries. It was filling enough, especially since I'd eaten plenty for breakfast and lunch.

As for sit-down restaurants, Sanaa was awesome!
