Tell me what I should see that most people wouldn't think of.

Well have you been to vegas? There is something I would love to do but I cant afford to, the Belagio has an opportunity where you can go behind the scenes with some of the chefs and either watch them or participate with them cant remember. There is a min of 10 people to do this. The first time I saw it it was 160.00 per person. It is unusual to.

Another one to do if you like to shop, you can hire a limo where they serve you limo and they take you to the shopping outlets. I forgot what that cost. These are a few ideas that not sure how many people know about them. Hope these are the kind of ideas your looking for.

The piano bar at Harrah's. It was the best part of my trip when I went.

Drive out to Red Rock Conservation area; and go hiking if you have time.

Get a spa treatment. There are dozens of spas in town; I like the Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian. The salt grotto and wave room are really cool.

Go to a unique restaurant - like Firefly at The Plaza downtown. It's a tapas restaurant in the "dome" with a unique view of downtown. http://www.fireflylv.com/index.html

If you want a cool view of the fountain show at Bellagio, get a table at the Fontana Bar, and just go out on the patio during the fountain shows.

If you like to people watch, ask for an outside table at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Las Vegas.

The PP mentioned the dueling pianos at Harrahs; you need to go about 8 or so during their karaoke, and get a table; the dueling pianos start at 9 pm. It is a lot of fun! There are also dueling pianos at NYNY, Venetian and a restaurant at a mall called Town Square.

It will be our first time to Vegas. I'm looking for all ideas from free to a tad extravagant. $160 ideas yes. $1000 ideas no. Not that anyone has suggested that yet. We don't even have a date set yet other than sometime in the next 18 months. Will depend on finances. Damn money tree won't grow.

All these ideas are great.

Part of a girl's trip every 2 years ..

We like dining at Bobby Flay's, Rosemary's, Emeril's and last trip - Hash House A Go Go at Imperial Palace (definitely split meal at HH-servings humongous!)
Generally, we go for later lunch - a bit less expensive and fits right into our "eastern time zone" body clock time to eat

First time at Vegas - stay on the strip - but make a trip downtown - different atmosphere and catch the light show! Also, happy hour (at small bar in the Nugget) had great gourmet pizza and drinks Also, gambling downtown much slower pace, "cheap" tables - fun for the beginner or low stakes players!

Some things that we found fun on different trips to Vegas are:

Take a helicopter flight over the city - daytime or night time are both good.

Eat at The Steakhouse (inside Circus Circus) - a real surprise, a bit of "old Vegas" and really, really great food and atmosphere.

Check out the Mob Experiance at the Tropicana - interesting (and you can also see how they are "updating" the Trop without tearing down an old casino and building new).

Go on the zip line on Fremont Street downtown (and also check out the night time light shows) Get your picture taken with a million dollars at Binion's and also enjoy the Shrimp Cocktail at the Golden Gate - where it all started!

Definately watch (and listen) to Belligio's fountain shows - if you can get at table at Bon'Ami (Paris Casino Resturant) at night it is very pretty and relaxing, if you eat there during the day - it is great people watching.

If you like to see the old neon signs you could go on the Boneyard Tour - check ahead for the hours of the tour - they seem to change times alot.

See lots of shows, there are all types of shows ranging from free to expensive so you can definately find some that you like.

Also get slot cards from the casinos you go thru, lots of times you get free small gifts or play time and then there is a good chance that you will get offers from them later on. Go thru the casinos (old and new)and check out the different designs and themes of them all. Also check out the new City Center with the fountains and art. Take the trams between some of the casinos (Belligo/Ari/City Center, Excalibur/Luxor)

Go check out the Atomic Testing Museum and if you have time take the tour to the Nevada Test Site (by bus, on the outskirts of Vegas). Or head out of town to the Grand Canyon (esp. the Skywalk), Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon or just for a drive.

Just some ideas, if you mention what you are interested in I bet everyone will have lots of other hints and ideas for you.

do they still do the live band karaoke at the mandalay bay?

i did that a couple of years ago and it was fun to sing with a real band rather than a recording.
