Can anyone tell me what it is like there at that time of year? Would we be insane to travel there then?

August is such a hot time to travel. With the kids being out of school, I'm sure they will also want to be in the ac so the malls may be filled along with the waterpark. If you like to gamble, you can keep yourself indoors during the day, and see the hotels, strip, during the night when it's a bit cooler. Just remember to drink alot of water so you don't dehydrate.

It's about 105 degrees -- but it's a dry heat! :hyper: :hyper:

Crazy? Depends on whether you plan on going outside at all? I guess if you stay inside in the AC for the majority of the day (which is reasonably possible, given all the trams and monorails available), then it wouldn't be too bad.

We went to Vegas in August a few years ago and although it was over 100 degrees all the time it was a dry heat so it was OK. Like someone else has said the hotels are air conditioned!! I wouldn't say going in August was a silly idea.

I'd go back to Vegas in August before I ever returned to Florida (WDW) at that time. Never again will I do that...

We honeymooned there the first week in August and it really wasnt bad. All the activities and such are inside, and its a dry heat so not bad at all. We didn't even feel the need to carry water with us when walking around, it just wasnt that bad.

=)

We went at the end of July and it was HOT but we spent most of the time at the pool during the day and at night it was gorgeous even at 4am. :)

We went in Aug one year and the temp pegged at 116. It was VERY HOT, but it wasnt as bad to me as say 100 degrees and 70% humidity like in Washington, Orlando, Houston. I know you have heard this before, but its a dry heat. Walking along the strip is nice because you get blasted by the casino A/C. If you get too hot, just duck inside for a bit. Where I noticed it the most was at the corner near where Flamingo Hilton, Ballys, Cesars, and Excalibur are, they have the elevated walkways. It seemed like you were taking the escalators into a furness..

I would go to Vegas any day, any time....even if there was 200 degree weather!! :)

We were there in July once and it was 115-degrees!

OK - so there's no humidity - but that's still HOT!!!

Everything is airconditioned and the casinos even pump some A/C out onto the sidewalks in front of their places. HOWEVER, you tend to do a lot of walking in Vegas. It's the quickest way to get from one place to another. You can get REALLY HOT REALLY FAST if you go too far.

Personally, I'd not go back in the summer again.
