So, I'm starting to think about next year and I was checking out the VB website today.

Is VB a resort that would appear to two adult women (my Mom and me?) We are not sun-worshippers--she was but is paying for it now with skin cancer--so has to stay out of the sun--

are there other activities to see and do?

Where does one fly into? (i.e. closest airport?)

I assume you should rent a car? So you can get around town and "see the sights"?

Any elaboration would be welcome!

Thanks

Cheryl

I love being on the beach but am not a sun person nor do I lie out by the pool or on the beach. We find VB a very pleasant and relaxing option. 4-5 days will usually be plenty but we have stayed 7 once with no issues. However, I would not go to VB without a car. It is 2 hours from the nearest larger airport and 7 miles from VB with essentially nothing else around for dining or activities. I would highly encourage you to visit VB but only if you have a car and enjoy relaxing at least part of the trip.

We spent 2 nights at VB in May 2008 to check it out. We found it to be a quiet, relaxing place to go. Remember, "quiet" in Disney terms since there were a lot of little kids there. I suppose it would be pretty active when older kids aren't in school.

You definately need a car. It is quite isolated.

There are quite a few places to go in the area. We liked the Enviornmental Learning Center which has long boardwalks into the swamp areas. They also have a number of activities which we will take our 8 year old granddaughter to when we go there again for spring break. I expect the pool at this time to be crowded and noisy, but that's ok.

Since, in my job, I'm tied to my cell phone and laptop, one of the big things I liked about VB was poor cell reception and the only internet connectivity was in the lobby. I told everyone at work I could not be reached.

You asked where to fly into...

West Palm Beach is the closest, about 85 miles. Depending where you are coming from, this might not be practical.

Orlando is 95 miles and is probably the most practical.

We got a good deal flying into Tampa, which was 155 miles. I was able to rent a car in Tampa and return it in Orlando and not have a drop fee.

We stayed at vero after a week at AKL it is very differnt from the WDW dvc resorts. Its really relaxing. I took long naps and quit walks on the beach. Enjoyed the tennis courts and minature golf. Vero Rocks I can't wait to go back.

Did you bring your own tennis racket? Or do they have some to rent at VB?

They loan rackets and balls to members. My 2 boys bring their own rackets though, so I'm not sure what they have.
